May 25, 200818 yr Hi,ok, here another test:Date: march 31, 2007Time: 0:00 GMZAirport: NVVVChecked the metar and find no VCFG but get the fog layer again. Attached a sequence of screenshots:bild1: 3900ft, no fog layerbild2: 4100ft, the fog layer comes inbild3: 6650ft, just below the fog layerbild4: 6750ft, "in the middle" of the fog layermetar: the metarSeems very strange, especially that the fog layer does not exists (or is not visible) below 4000ft.Wolfgang Wolfgang Schroeder
May 26, 200818 yr Hi,Here is what I get, no fog layer at all for me.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
May 26, 200818 yr Hi Jim,I don't understand why you can't replicate this weird problem. Can you try this pls?I did it this morning in France (Lfpg & Lfmn) and in the States (Kmia & Klas). You go wherever you want. Stay on ground with clear sky, no weather data in the sim. Then you start ASX and as soon it starts sending data in the wearther engine of Fsx this ugly thin grey layer appears. Then go in the weather settings (not the graphics part). Go to advanced weather and to the visibility tab. You see that ASX made 2 layers of vis. The first layer generally tops at 2293ft and the second starts at 3134ft. If you just click on each layers then click ok and go back to the sim. You will see that this weird gray layer diseappears. And voil
May 26, 200818 yr Hi All,1. LFPG with rain in the area. Look at the beautiful X Graphics lightning!2. LFMN with some great AI Traffic from WOAI.3. KMIA very warm already, 28C before Noon.4. KLAS with all those rich people and their private planes. In no case did I see a haze layer, even with rain in the area, or hot, humid conditions at KMIA.I don't get it either. If I can provide more screen shots, just let me know.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
May 26, 200818 yr Ok, did some other tests with one suprise.1. Restored FEX textures with default textures -> fog present2. Installed XGraphics -> fog present3. Removed ASX und XGraphics and reboot computer4. Started FSX -> no fog (as expected)5. Installed ASX without any SP -> fog appears again (see attached pic)6. Installed SP2 -> fog present7. Installed SP3 -> fog presentAt the moment it seems that the fog layer does not dependent on any ASX version. If you have it with SP3 you will also get it with any previous ASX versions. Can it be a graphic driver issue? What graphic card do you use and which driver version? I have a 8800GTS/320MB and the 174.74 driver. Wolfgang Schroeder
May 26, 200818 yr After 4 hours problem solved, at least for me. Updated to the new NVIDIA driver 175.16 and I can see the blue sky again!WolfgangPS: Are there any problems with some metars? Every time I want to download the metars for April 2, 2007, 22:00 GMZ, I need 6 attempts to get them. Wolfgang Schroeder
May 26, 200818 yr >After 4 hours problem solved, at least for me. Updated to the>new NVIDIA driver 175.16 and I can see the blue sky again!>>WolfgangIt can be a driver issue. The problem is that I already use the new Nvidia driver 175.16 with my 8800GTX.Jim, I made more than 20 screen shots. How can I send it to you?Thax so much for your help.Christian
May 26, 200818 yr Hi,Zip them into one zip file and send the one file to jim(AT)hifisim.comas an attachment. Don't worry about the size of the pics. If this doesn't work for you, just send a few at a time as attachments, like 5 mails of 4 pics each. Just number the e-mails, 1 of XX, 2 of XX, and so on.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
May 27, 200818 yr I played around with the max visibility settings, but still have the 3000' agl whiteout layer.scott s..
May 27, 200818 yr Hi all,I've found a provisional solution to the problem:Reduce Maximum Upper Visibilty to 0 SM.For me it works. The fog layer is gone.I'm downloading the latest drivers for my videocard. Maybe that solves the problem after all.Cheerio!joschy66
May 27, 200818 yr Hi joschy66,bravo that did the trick for me too!!I dunno if it will help Jim or damian but it works. I am not sure it is related to the driver version as I've got the last one from Nvidia 175.16. I was wondering if it's related to the new version of nhancer 2.4.1.I am still testingThx allChristian
May 27, 200818 yr Hi All,Please do keep us informed on whether it is the video drivers or nHancer. I have an older ATI card so I can't test either. Thanks for the help,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
May 27, 200818 yr Hi Jim,sorry I don't have time to send all the pics yet. I need to explain you each pics lol. I hope to have time this week-end. I didn't know that you use an ATI card which leeds me to a video card issue maybe.I just made a flight between Kphx and Klax with the "Maximum Upper Visibilty" set to zero and I don't get this ugly thin gray layer anymore. I still need to do some other tests to be sure.I go sleep now.Christian
May 29, 200818 yr I will check the upper vis 0 option and do some tests. Meanwhile, I have been doing some various test, with and without ASX running. Here are some things I see:The METAR shows vis as 45SM but ASX is forcing surface vis to 8-10 miles. Why does it do this? The haze/fog/whiteout (whatever you want to call it) at 3000 ft AGL gets worse as surface visibility goes down. This was the METAR in effect:Departure (CYXS):CYXS 280154Z CCA 00000KT 45SM SCT057TCU BKN130 21/ RMK TCU3AC2 RMK INTERPOLATEDCYXS 280038Z 280113 VRB03KT P6SM BKN070 TEMPO 0104 P6SM -SHRA PROB40 0104VRB15G25KT P6SM TSRA BKN050CBI then did some comparisons with the FSX custom weather controls. I created a surface vis layer (5000 ft MSL since CYXS elevation is about 2000 ft) and saw the same effect, but not nearly so severe as with ASX (I could see actual blue sky rather than overcast). So with the above METAR I pushed the surface min vis in ASX to 30, which got rid of the layer effect (I guess as expected).I still don't see why ASX is always trying to force surface vis to 10 miles all the time.I see this line in the asx.cfg -- does it do anything?EnableVisibilityGraduation = Falsescott s..
