"AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Processor can fs2004 be run on this type of system..?"

Featured Replies

Hello I just bought a AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Processor and I am having lock ups in fs2004 .The motherboard that I bought seems to be the issue with onboard sound even though I have disabled it.AT the motherboard tech support they are saying its because maybe the software will not support 64 bit systems. AMD states in their ad for the processor that "The AMD Athlon 64 processor runs on AMD64, a revolutionary technology that allows the processor to run 32-bit applications at full speed while enabling a new generation of powerful 64-bit software " so who is telling the truth here....?

Please post the specs of your entire system - motherboard and video card especially. It's hard to give any suggestions without knowing what's in the system. The A64 absolutely can run FS2004 just fine, so it's not that.

Well i have a 3200 64 and not ANY different than the 3400 other than speed. Are you trying to run flight simulator on Windows 64 Beta?? That WILL lock up seeing that it is buggy as a summer night drive in the Sacramento Valley. It is NOT the CPU but might be sound or other issues. Remeber it takes more than the CPU to run it..... sorry about the general information I really didn't think anyone could answer or would anwser back but I am happy tht you have ...anyway heres my specs.3400 amd 64xp home 32 bit1024 ddr 400 ram6800gt 80 gig hd 7200rpm audigy 2 sound card(on board sound diabled)Amd says to watch the idle temp in bios make sure its between 40*c and 45*c .The problem happends about 5 to ten minutes into flying The game either is shut off and sends me straight to desktop or the sim locks up making weird nosies of the sounds in the game or sim but all distorted...Mother board is the ECS 755-A2 ...420 watt power supply26" gateway LCD

Im no guru on hardware. However did you check the device manager to make sure your sound card onboard the mobo and the audigy arent conflicting? Thats what it sounds like to me. Disable the onboard sound on in the bios.EJ

It is disable(in bios) and none of the software to onboard sound is left on the hard drive it was removed.I did check for conflicts and none were stated ...

If SB means system board drivers then yes,I did that and still problems. At times the computer would just restart and other times shut the sim down to desk top so then I tired another 3d game and it did the same thing and locked up making weird sounds.Anyway I dont know if its the cpu but I did send the board back and will get a new one in the next coming week of the same model.....Right now I am using all the same hardware except motherboard and cpu with no problems but then again this is a pen 4 3 gig. which is my well going to be just online computer and other stuff but not fs2004 that will be for the other cpu (3400)

No, How about the sound board drivers? I should have typed it out!Edit: I run FS with the A64 3400 with no problems, so it is not the CPU.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

well to the audigy2 no I didn't (on board sound is disabled)..I have been looking around the posts and I did notice many people are having crashes or lock ups with their sim lately though....Do you think its possible because I didn't format my hard drive and just slapped a AMD in after having a pen4 3 gig in there first may be an issue?

Taking it from a different approach..im running the 3200 and have no problems with it...looking at your specs it should run just fine... but.. ehhm what heatsink are you running on the cpu?.. if third party check for the right amount of coolerpaste.. not too much and check if the sink makes good contact with the cpu..if it is the stock amd heatsink..then what you have to do is get rid of the "tape" stuff that comes on it...and use regular coolerpaste.. my hunch is that it could be that cpu thermal protection is kicking in... my two cents

Hello,First off It doesn't sound like a heatsink issue. The thermal tape on heatsinks works just fine. Artic silver and other pastes may reduce a degree or 2 it will not matter plus every OEM heatsink has the thermal tape applied from the factory. If it is ok for them then it is fine.Is your SB audio card sharing an IRQ? Try moving it to a different PCI slot to see if that helps. Did you reformat and reinstall the HD efter upgrading th CPU and MB?If not I highly recommend that. The HD is loaded with different drivers and such for your old hardware that might be causing problems. Honestly though I think that the SB is just sharing an IRQ with the video card. Moving it to another PCI slot may work. I really hope that solves you problem,JeffEdit: The main reason regarding reformating it the chipset drivers for the mobo. The onboard soundcard is dependent on these drivers and that might be the conflict. Did you use the latest chipset drivers?

Thanks for the tips and ideas guys. When I get the replacement motherboard I will try these things. The fan and heat sink are the stock type but I will make sure I put another after market paste on the chip.I am also going to just run fs2004 on a new hard drive the 36.7 gig raptor 10,000 rpm with a new copy of windows xp on it.I am going to only have those two things on that computer and will not hook it to the internet or add anything else and only use that system soley for fs2004.I am also thinking about not even getting or doing any of the windows service packs just to see how it will run just with a plain copy of windows xp home and just fs2004.I bought this set up only for fs2004 and just have been testing it with the 80 gig hard drive that had a pen 4 3 gig previsiously installed or running the hard drive.although the hard drive was never formated .so this is how it will actually be set up for my fs2004/with loads of addons and windows only computer set up is going to be.(this set up will not ever be hooked to the internet if possible)3400 amd 64 bit1 gig ddr 32006800gt36.7 gig raptor hd 10,000 rpm 8mbaudigy2 sound card420 watt power supply

Hi there! I'm also in the process of buying a new computer. It's still not ready for pick up, I guess the main tech is on vacation (do they get to rest?). I was speaking to another tech guy (I really don't know that much about it) and he was mentioning the power supply in mine and how they recommended the good one for it(and not cheap). You need to have a good quality power supply with these chips. This might be something to look into if the new motherboard doesn't work out. This system is: (Oh god, another week to wait!)AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. Yes removing the thermal pads with alcohol is a really nice idea and get AS 5 instead for example. Depending on where you start it can cut your temps down 7 degrees or more if you have cheap thermal pads. Even though you are not overclocking having a cool CPU can
