Poll (and considerations): what resolution?

Featured Replies

Poll: what's the standard resolution (if using a LCD) or the max usable (i.e. decent refresh rate, if using a CRT) resolution of your monitor? And what's the resolution you actually use with FS9?I think 1280x1024 will stick with us for years, considering the steady decline in CRT demand and the fact that even 19'' LCD usually have 1280x1024 as standard resolution...

I have a Nec. crt monitor and use 1280-960. I think my monitor will support 1920-1440. Because of frame rates I leave it at 1280-960. keith

I have a 19" CRT and I use 1280x960 with 85 refreshAt this resolution text isn't too small like 1600x1200 or too big like 1024x768 on my monitor

I have tried to go with 1280 x 1024 on my Sony GDM-F520 CRT, but it just doesn't look as good as 1600 x 1200, so that's where it sits. I have run it at the monitor's max, at 2048 x 1536, but it does not add enough to warrant the performance hit.No matter how nice LCD's can look, I wouldn't trade this CRT for any current LCD. My brother just bought the very nice Sony 19" LCD with 12ms response time and XBright screen, but there is no way I will change to an LCD until 1600 x 1200 is running at 12ms or less and with a pixel pitch of .25 or better.Noel

1280x960 @ 85Hz on 19" CRT.

1280x960 on the 19" CRT and 1024x768 on the 15" TFT, 1280x1024 is not the right aspect ratio for FS9 and virtually evey game, you need to have 4:3 or the full screen dispaly will be distorted, although it is possible to run it in a 4:3 window. I can go up to 1600x1200 resolution on the CRT but do not go this high because i would need to use my reading glasses to see the text on the screen. Your "standard" 1280x1024 would need to be 1365x1024 to maintain the 4:3 aspect ratio. That said the general trend is not to go for the squarer 1280x1024, but quite the oposite, we are now seeing the more wide screen 16:9 (as with TVs) which would equate to 1280x720, and is a lot closer to what the eye sees.

1280x1024 is the native res of my LCD and also the res. I use in FS2004.

Uhm, I'm not sure about that, but shouldn't LCD (at least till 19'') have a 5:4 aspect ratio?>That said the general trend is not to go for the>squarer 1280x1024, but quite the oposite, we are now seeing>the more wide screen 16:9 (as with TVs) which would equate to>1280x720, and is a lot closer to what the eye sees.Well I hope so, wide screen is perfect for flight simulation :) However 1280x720 IMHO is quite a "poor" resolution compared to the definition given by 1600x1200Marco

Bruce Johnson is correct! The recommended ratio for FS9 is 4:3, as most designers (i.e. panel designers) are developping their products to be displayed best at a ratio of 4:3. It depends to your CPU and graphic card performance if you can go beyond 1024x960 or 1152x864.Rgds, Sam
