March 26, 200521 yr I just realized my new 3.8Ghz PC doesn't have hyperthreading enabled but even so FS9 runs amazingly well with great fps. Is it worth enabling hyperthreading for FS2004? What will it--or should it--do?Appreciate advice, thanks!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
March 26, 200521 yr Either or, it makes no difference in FS, unless you are running RXP guages, then its a different story ;)Dan.
March 27, 200521 yr It's nice to have HT, cuz you can run FS on one CPU and all other stuff that *might* use some CPU on the 2nd CPU. Use Imagecfg tools to configure and write into executable on which CPU what runs...
April 1, 200521 yr Author Thanks Bert. One less risk to me and my PC mucking about with the BIOS screen which I don't know much about anyway.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
April 1, 200521 yr My results are not typical, but disabling HT in the bios of my 3.0 ghz Intel chip causes a major performance drop for me. Most people seem to notice little difference, but my system seems much slower without it. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
April 4, 200521 yr Thats kinda weird...Most I've heard say FS is faster with the HT off...But I couldn't really say myself, as my chip doesn't have it.. MK Mark Keith
April 4, 200521 yr I thought that if you buy a CPU with HT then it should be on all the time, eitherwise why do you buy it? Mine has been ON by default all the time and I have great performance with it.Stelios Stelios Christofides
April 4, 200521 yr "I thought that if you buy a CPU with HT then it should be on all the time, eitherwise why do you buy it?"Because you would be hard pushed to buy a new P4 without it.HT has NO effect positive or negetive in FS, UNLESS you are using the RXP Garmins.Dan.
April 4, 200521 yr The only positive effect would be if another program needs the cpu for some reason at the same time you are using flight sim. In that case, the OS will put the program on the other logical cpu that flight sim is not on, because flight uses 100% of the cpu it is assigned to.Otherwise, you will see no gains or loss, except for the RXP Garmin issue.
