May 4, 200521 yr Hi Joe, it's funny that THG states such dramatic differences using i.e. a 9800pro and 9600pro. When I ran the same tests; the performance @ 1024x was exactly the same between the two. No typo, exactly the same with 4-6xAA/8xAF... Not 34fps vs 19. Cranking it up to 1280x and using the same settings resulted in the 9600pro dropping behind the 9800pro by ca. 40%. However, without weather (clear sky) the performance was again -and to my surprise- totally equal. Anandtech is much more realistic as far as I'm concerned and Tom's HG is very... IMHO, they can't be considered a reliable information source and simmers shouldn't rely on their results as a reference. What's also remarkable, many people probably use 1280x, so why does THG use their time to test such powerful display adapters at 1024x alone and not include what's also common? Ok, they include a couple of 1600x tests, but where are the mid-range resolutions? Good luck and kind regards Jaap
May 10, 200521 yr I am relatively new to this kind of discussion around FS2004...so, please be patient and let me know just WHERE do I change these settings you keep referring to, AA, AF...I suppose you're talking about Anti-Aliasing, which I can ajust on the FS9 display settings, but AF... I loked at something similar on my display adapter's properties and found an "Anisotroping filtering" and all it has is "on" or "off".I am an IT support person, so I can change any .cfg file if need be, and yes, I know how to save a copy of them first. My display adapter is a "mere mortal" Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML with the latest drivers installed (March 25th,2005).I have 1GB RAM and 100GB HD and have been running FS9 with Feelthere ERJ payware which I'm crazy for, with excellent performance, 2 monitors and all. BTW, to add my 2 cents to what another poster said : In doing benchmarks for a job I held a few years ago, it became clear to me that graphic display adapter's manufacturers really only thoroughly optimize their drivers for the top resolution option on their drivers. Thus selecting mid-resolutions, might in fact bring poorer performance than the higher resolutions because of this... Thx guys.
May 11, 200521 yr Hi and welcome, the AF settings are usually there where you found the AA settings. It looks like your system doesn't allow multipliers and AF is indeed 'anis and tropical' filtering (I l
May 12, 200521 yr Hi Jaap, I also ran accross some message somewhere where somebody was telling people to "uncheck" the Anti-aliasing from FS9 settings and let the video-card do it... Now I'm really confused...I can't seem to see any difference one way or the other. BTW, my airplanes started showing jagged lines on the external views, is that how it's supposed to be ?I don't remember being bothered by that before, so I guess it wasn't like that, so... does that mean I screwed up all my settings now ?
May 12, 200521 yr You set your AA and/or AF settings right through your video card drivers (for ATI it is the ATI control panel). These settings will override anything you set in fs2004. You should uncheck antialiasing in fs2004 and let your video card handle it. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
