May 3, 200521 yr 64 BIT runs a lot smoother and everything is instant, even though 32BIT windows is very fast on my computer, 64 BIT makes it seem a whole lot faster. The big thing is drivers to use under 64BIT windows, I have been able to find drivers for all my devices except my Saitek Joystick, it loads default ones, which work but dont allow much control so the joystick doesnt work how I like it. Hopefully Saitek can get sme 64BIT drivers out soon.
May 5, 200521 yr I probably don't qualify because I purcahsed an OEM version... just a guess as to why Microsoft didn't qualify me. And about the dolby encoding to the person who asked, sorry not sure about that one.
May 6, 200521 yr Hi Alex, thanks for the reply. AFAIK, you should also try the channel which recently sold xp32 to you. Maybe you stand better chances there? Didn't 'the procedure' give you any specific reason why it failed? Don't give up buddy. Thanks for taking your time. Good luck and kind regards Jaap
May 6, 200521 yr Okay I finally got my new computer from Monarch Computers. Here are the specs:THERMALTAKE Xaser III V1000A BLACK/CLEAR SIDE NO PS SPI FSP 350-60BN ATX 12V ALSO MSI MB K8N NEO4 Platinum Athlon64 Nvidia Nforce4 Socket939 FSB800 4DDR400-Dual AMD Athlon 64 3200 939 90nm Pin ADA3200DIK4BI Thermaltake AMD K8 Venus 7+ Highest Performance Cooler for AMD OpteronCORSAIR TWINX1024-3200C2PT DDR 400 1GB (2 pcs 512) SAMSUNG 160GB Internal 3.5-in SATA HDD 7200rpm 8MB MITSUMI FLOPPY,7 in 1, BIEGE,CARD READER Sapphire ATI RADEON X700 Pro 256mb PCIE 16x DVI TV CRT RetailI have not installed the 64bit OS, that will happen tonight.I did, however, load XP SP2, all the drivers, and then MSFS (no patch). I set the ATI card to full quality, then set all sliders in MSFS to the right, plus enabled shadows, etc., 100% AI, Fair Weather and sitting on the runway at Seattle running at 1024x768. Frame Rate at Unlimited. I did NOT use FSAutoStart.Looking out the front in 2D mode - 20 FPS consitent. VC gives the same. Once in the air and doing turns, there were no stutters. The Frame Rate would go down to 14-15 when the airport was in view. Once out over the coutry side, frame rates were between 30-35.I imagine I can significantly boost my frames by replacing clouds and tweaking some of the sliders a little bit.Anyway, I'll be installed the 64bit OS tonight and I'll run the same test.
May 8, 200521 yr Okay, finally got the 64 bit OS and drivers installed. Unfortunately, I don't have wireless NIC drivers for it, so I have to swap back to 32 bit to access the network. However,Flight Sim runs very very well on the 64 bit machine. Extremely smooth and I beleive (need to do a few more flights) the fps are higher. Even when the fps dip (when you have SeaTac on the screen with 100% AI), there are no stutters.I will grab some screenshots and post them shortly.
May 8, 200521 yr Ok, out with it, the cost man, the cost..... :-lolKen congrats on the new system, I upgraded Ram and vid Card, and will build a new one once FS10 hits the street, and I see some benchmarking, etc...Can't wait to see how the 64 bit OS works out for you.Take care,JoeGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
May 8, 200521 yr Not as expensive as you might think. I didn't have to buy a monitor or keyboard/mouse, so that helped. Total cost was a little over 1K.
May 8, 200521 yr After a couple of more comparisons, I think the fps are about the same.A couple of things to note though:1) 64bit OS is using BETA drivers2) I use FSAutoStart on the 32bit OS, but NOT on the 64bit OS.
