August 4, 200520 yr Hi guysWhat would be the recommended mic/headset type for use in FS for online flying with say vatsim or other?
August 6, 200520 yr Hello,I use a Plantronics - mike/headset with a USB connection. I believe that the "model 500" is about $89. I use it with a number of voice programs and it works great!Ron SagelNear KCHS
August 6, 200520 yr I use a $21.95 set from Radio Shack for VATSIM and regular multiplayer use and it works just fine. The Plantronics USB sets come highly recommended though. One big advantage of a USB connection is the ability - given two sound cards - to split out voice communications from FS sounds such as engines/environment, so that you can blast the neighbours with your F-16 afterburner while quietly chatting away to your wingman on your headset!Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
August 6, 200520 yr I just went to CompUSA today and bought a Plantronics usb headset called GameComPro 1 $79.00 and so far it works great. My wife bought it for my birthday but I will tell her when she gets home LOL. JeffG
August 6, 200520 yr Moderator Being poor, I opted to buy an "over the ear headset with a boom mic" that was actually made for a cellphone. I bought a splitter cable at Radio Shack that will separate the headset's speaker & mic leads to 1/8" miniplugs for computer use... ;)It works just great, plus I only need one headset for both purposes. Of course, there was that ONE time when I was talking on the phone and tried to call for clearance while on VATSIM... *:-* Fr. August 6, 200520 yr I use the same headset I use in the real airplane, a relatively-cheap Feather-Lite stereo headset I got off EBay. One of the better uses I've made of $80 and it has the bonus of being one less thing to buy if you graduate from simulation to the real thing, too. The noise supression is decent for the airplane and when connected to the PC it kills the noise of the PC fans and cats in the background and so on and really helps with immersion. I made my own PC to headset adapter from $5 of parts at Radio Shack. The only problem is that now that I am living alone, if the phone rings and I am "flying", I can't hear it. This may not be such a bad thing in some cases... (:()
August 7, 200520 yr >Hi guys>>What would be the recommended mic/headset type for use in FS>for online flying with say vatsim or other?Save your money, don't spend it on hype, and get a simple noise canceling headset and mic set.I use one from Logitech, which you can get for $14.00 from Newegg.Logitech:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16826106932Wal-mart sometimes sells them depending on the store. I got mine for I think $12 or $13, I don't remember. For me, it works great, The In-line Volume and Mic Mute button is a nice touch, and I use this one for all my Voice recognition. FS9, OpenOffice, sometimes this forum etc.....And if you get it, and don't like it, return it , then spend more money. I see no reason to spend $70 - $80 dollars for something that will do the job well for less than $15.Good Luck,JoeGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
