Cannot uninstall current ATI drivers!?

Featured Replies

When trying to uninstall my present Catalyst drivers, I get the following error message:"Unable to uninstall older or non-ATI display drivers"I have only used Catalyst drivers on my 9800 Pro card. How can I delete these so I can install the 4.12 drivers? Thanks a lot,Howard

Howard - Are you using the Catalyst Uninstaller? If not you can download it from the driver section at www.ati.com . If you aren't using that uninstaller what is giving you the message?Doug

Driver Cleaner Pro from www.driverheaven.net will take care of it if you can't get rid of them from the normal methods...

I'd try the Catalyst Uninstaller Howard. ATI wrote it to overcome the problems with the normal Control Panel uninstall (which often fails).Doug

I ran the ATI uninstaller and it said it couldn't find the file and did not delete the drivers.

I'm off on a trip in the morning and won't have any internet access for a week but I have another thought. Have you ever installed any other drivers besides the Catalysts, e.g, Omega? If so you may have to try Ryan's idea of using Driver Cleaner. If that doesn't do it I'm out of ideas. What drivers do you have installed now?Doug

On mine, I just installed the Omega drivers right over the ATI ones. I removed the CCC 1st. like the instructions said too. I think they are working.JimCYWG

I'd try Ryan's solution as well. Drivercleaner also has an option to remove (from the registry) the ATI Uninstall Utility. Clean out this (as well as all relevant drivers) using Drivercleaner in Safe Mode should get you there. Also, after running Drivercleaner in Safe Mode you should manually delete the driver install folder and then clean out the Recycle Bin before rebooting.Greg

Hi Howard,I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how but I'd managed to lose the install information which by default is stored in C:ATISupport, this information is required for a sucessful uninstall whether you use the Windows control panel method or the ATI uninstall tool. The way I overcame it was (after taking a deep breath) to reinstall the same drivers on top of themselves, which also reinstalled the support information required for the uninstall, then I went through the routine of uninstallation, sucessfully in my case.Good luck,Pete.

As others have pointed out Drivercleaner Pro is the safest and surest way of removing display drivers.
