December 23, 200520 yr Hello,I have just upgraded from a bottom range card to an X850 Pro ATI having sought advice on this forum which was very helpful. I did the right thing, even though I would be a electronic amateur by completely reformatting my PC and installed the drivers on a new partition having used Driver Cleaner Pro. But even thought I am quite capable of reading the documentation I still dont really know what terms mean and what certain settings mean, does anybody who has an X850 Pro have the time to give me a general idea of the configuration ie Anti Aliasing, AF etc (still don't know whether AA is better contolled from Fs9 or from ATI menu)? Any help would be appreciated,Spec isn't much have an Intel 4 3GHZ HD, 1Gig Ram, Windows XP and a fairly lower range MOBO, all I have on machine atm is virus check and IEXPLORER. I own PMDG and LEVEL D payware and use them regularly as well as ActiveSky. Also what kind of FPS can I expect from this setup, I always thought a steady 20-25 was good enough, and as mostly a spectator on these forums but never quite had the where with all to ask!RegardsGeorge Tyrrellps if anybody even had a good link re this card i'm not afraid of a a bit of research, thanks
December 23, 200520 yr Hi George,First things first; download the newest ATI drivers if you haven't already. The newest is the 5.13 available from www.ati.comIf you haven't already, download and install Microsoft .net 1.1 framework. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enYou will need the .net framework to use the latest Catalyst Control Centre (CCC)Once you have these installed, right click and open the CCC.You can browse to the 3D> All Settings Tab. Here you can adjust your settingshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/136366.jpgHere you can adjust your settings. You'll see I am using 6x Anti-Aliasing, 16x Ansiostropic Filtering and have the Mipmap settings set to quality.Your milage may vary. Start with 6x AA and 16x Ansio and see how it runs. If you want a little more performance, drop the AA down to 4x and the Ansio down to 8x.Leave the Antialiasing tickbox unselected in FS, the CCC will enable AA in the game. I have my mipmap levels set to 4 in game and hardware rendered lights to 6.Hope this helps :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
December 23, 200520 yr Author john, or anybody when I'm in safe mode using driver cleaner pro do I just delete the Ati CCC drivers or the whole lot? ie Ati WDM, Hydravision etc. Also in the control panel when i'm removing the drivers before safe mode do I remove also the Control Centre and the Hydravision and the Software Uninstall Utility?ThanksGeorge Tyrrell
December 23, 200520 yr George, just download the Catalyst removal tool and do it normally in windows. Reboot, reinstall new drivers, reboot, viola :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
December 23, 200520 yr Author Note to self, John Tavendale is on the Christmas Card list. Can't believe the frame rates i'm getting, I stuck to AF at 8x and AA at 4x and its a dream come true, thanks a millionGeorge Tyrrell
December 24, 200520 yr Hi George, AFAIK, the 'Adaptive anti-aliasing' checkbox (in John's screenie) will not be available with your GPU. That's because John has a X1800. If you want to make it available (AAA eliminates the tree shimmers etc @ a slight performance penalty), go into the registry and search for all instances of 'ASTT_NA' and change them from '1' to '0' (zero). This will activate the AAA-checkbox after a re-boot and allow almost shimmer-free simming. Have fun, kind regards Jaap
December 25, 200520 yr Didn't do any registry edits.. :)Just running a slightly older version of the CCC with the 5.13 drivers. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers

December 26, 200520 yr Those options aren't available by default on those cards, Abe. Apparently there is a registry edit that may work though. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
