June 3, 200620 yr Probably old news, but a new set of Omega drivers is out. Made great improvements on my ATI 9800 Pro's performance.
June 3, 200620 yr Much depends on the system. Some folks love them and some folks hate them. In any event, they're worth a try. As for me, my 9800 Pro just loves the Cat. 5.7's - no other driver I've ever tried (including the Omega's) even comes close to delivering the performance of these drivers. All mileage is, of course, variable.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. June 4, 200619 yr On my system xit seemsx that the Omegas xtendx to offer very slightly better performance and a slightly better overall image quality than the CATs...although that could be just my brain deceiving me into thinking so...(maybe I'm just an optimist by nature?) Like Doug says though, go with whatever xseemsx to suit your particular rig. I have to say though that in general I find the process of updating graphics card drivers rather pointless, if you want my honest opinion. NEVER have I been able to honestly say from the bottom of my heart that I have seen any conclusive performance gains of any remarkable significance in FS from doing so. Yet for some reason I just keep on updating them whenever new drivers come out lol...(hungry for more FPS like the rest of us FS9 users out there...sure you can sympathize lol) Incidentally, the last release of Omega drivers caused frequent CTD's when in the middle of a flight on my rig, so in general you DO have to be wary when upgrading your graphics card drivers. I think though that in all honesty and taking MY experiences into account you should only update your graphics drivers if you're experiencing some kind of major problems with your current ones (note: like what the Omega/CAT websites suggest...). I don't think somehow that a badly-programmed FS application kind of falls into that category.Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the miracle that (hopefully) will be FSX+Vista+DX10 will slow down my hair's greying process in this respect. lol. June 4, 200619 yr Just a question about upgrading the Omega drivers. Every time I upgrade I end up losing all of my settings. How can I save these settings for use with the new drivers ??Mark. Mark CYYZ
June 4, 200619 yr Interesting.I also have an ATI 9800 Pro, and so far all of the 6.x catalyst group have caused flashing in FS9 for me. I went back to one of the 5.x versions and don't really remember which one at the moment which have not given me this problem.I may give the newest version a shot anyway and then go back to the old if I still have the flashing problemOne question: Am I correct in assuming that the old traditional procedures of being sure all previous drivers are removed along with the driver cleaner routine are still in effect? (New drivers still will not simply overwrite the old). The newer installation execution files would almost lead one to hope that overwritting would be possible (Always a dreamer). Thanks for the post:RTH
June 4, 200619 yr Author I didn't remove the old omegas. It worked fine, but lost my settings. The "wavies" are now gone. I've been impressed so fAR.
June 4, 200619 yr These Omega Drivers are the best ever...FS runs much smoother on my old 9700!!!Btw...could barely run COD 2 at a very choppy frame-rate in 1280x1024 and now running 1600x1200 smoothly...and I don't why? :-hah
June 4, 200619 yr If you're referring to the driver settings the answer is you can't save them. The Omega installer completely replaces the old drivers including the settings.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. June 4, 200619 yr In all the many, many times I've installed and reinstalled ATI drivers I've never used any sort of "driver cleaner". The old drivers do, indeed, need to be removed, but the supplied ATI Software Uninstall Utility works just fine. No need to do a lot of extra work.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
