This question is for those lucky people who use the Dell 24" widescreen display with FS9.I'm tempted to get this TFT after all I've read about it but I'm concerned that the very high native resolution - 1920*1200 - would kill performance on my P4 3.0 / 1Gb RAM / 9800 Pro system.Do you run FS9 at the native resolution and if so are the frame rates acceptable? Or do you run at a lower one to keep the frame rates reasonable? If you run at the native res what are your system specs?Do we need such a high resolution for FS9 and are the current range of graphics card capable of delivering acceptable results at 1920*1200?More than one question, sorry, but you can appreciate this display is a lot of money and I don't want to make an expensive mistake.OTOH, would it make sense to consider a 26" LCD TV type display with a native resolution of 1366*768 and DVI input given this is the standard for High Def broadcasts in the UK?Thanks,

Ray, I just got the Dell 2405 last week and find that the FS with manhattan by Aerosoft installed it looks like your looking out the window of an aircraft. Ray,I dont have that Dell monitor, but I do run a Samsung 213T (21.3") at it's native resolution of 1600 x 1200 on A64 3500+ with a 9800 pro and I can tell you that at this resolution, I am really pushing the card past its limits. Its acceptable, but barely. With the LCD screens, you are really limited to running at it's native rsolution. Anything else looks blurry, and if you use the DVI connector as I do, it forces the res to native anyway.I was going to get an AGP X800 XL or something similar, but I have decided to bide my time and get a PCIe MB and GPU early next year.Glenn

I suspected the graphics card would have to be a real heavyweight to cope with those very high resolutions and with the Dell having an even higher native my 9800Pro is probably a non-starter.I also have FSGlobal, Ultimate Terrain (Europe) and Ground Environment which does make the ground look absoliutely brilliant but I do get the blurries at 1280*1024 on my 18" TFT so I dread to think what a higher resolutions would do to things.I'll do the same as you and build a new system towards the year end once the hardware requirements for FSX are available.BTW, you should be able to run at a lower resolution even with a DVI connection. You can't run higher of course.Finally, the resolution you posted is 4:3 but on a widescreen display (16:10)? shouldn't you be running at 1600*1000 or thereabouts?Cheers,

Ray,The 213T is a 4:3 monitor. After reading your post, I checked my settings and you can indeed change the res on the DVI connection. It looks terrible though, so no go there either. I have gotten kind of used the 'nice' view at 1600 x 1200 anyway! I am looking forward to the PCIe and GPU upgrade early next year. Should make a big difference.Regards,Glenn

Hi Ray,I run the 2405 at it's default resolution of 1920x1200 driven by 2xFX7800GTX in SLI mode. It works really well for FS9, frames rates are 50 upwards using VFR Photographic Scenery, custom autogen, UK2000 airports etc. etc.George

Hi George,Interesting. However, I suspect that the FX6800 Ultra is more powerful than my 128Mb 9800Pro so I need to tread with care. It would be a humungous mistake to buy the Dell and only then find out I needed to buy a more powerful AGP card which could be difficult given everything is moving towards PCi-E.I'm not sure how much more powerful the Xeon is over my P4 3.0.If you have time could you post some frame rates sitting on Rwy 36 at Meigs with 2560*1024 and then 1280*1024 on a single display - thanks.Cheers,

Hi Ray!I actually thought you already had one of these. Oh well...I got one last fall and it changes the whole experience of FS9. The immersion factor triples.I did end up buying a new video card -- went from my ati 9800 to the x850. I run the program at the native resolution.Your mouth will drop...as are the prices on this monitor these days.Good luck.Ed Lin, D.O.S.
