Featured Replies

Hello,Does anybody know if the 7800 GTX 512 Video Card will be compatable with DirectX 10?Paul

No, no current GPU is DX10 compliant. We will have to wait for R600 (Ati) and G80 (nvidia)Both are expected to launch late this year

Paul is correct. DX10 cards are not yet available on the market - possibly in Q3/Q4 2006, but even then, you'll have to wait for Vista.Pat

It will be compatible with DX10, i.e. will run under it but is not DX10 feature compliant.

The card will run under DX9L with Vista. Vista will not allow DX10 to be used with any non-compliant, i.e. current, card.Doug

If Vista is up and running and DX10 is installed, you will get a black screen if you install a non DX10 card? or will Vista fall back to DX9 or simply run under DX10 with compatibility?

I suspect it will switch to the DX9 compatibility layer based on what information Arstechnica has posted. This is all speculation. Games that -require- DX10 cards will not run, but I am more than certain it will be a year before any game comes out like that.

And by 'games' I mean Halo 2 PC, of course. =)

No black screen. Everything will still work (except games specifically requiring DX10) but it will run under DX9L with none of the DX10 features. - Doug
