September 15, 200619 yr I have posted about this problem before and was never fixed so I will see if I can get some help now.I have a clone 3.2 P4 with a ATI X800 video card with 256 ram on board.I have 1 gig on DDR ram on the mother board.I just reformatted my HD and reinstalled XP Pro and all the service packs and updates, than reinstalled FS9.I installed the update and than added in 3ed party scenery{Simflyers airports and UT and GE with updates}I have the settings in FS9 as all normal and have tweaked it again per the different threads on getting better frame rates and here's the kicker,I am getting frame rates of 3-4 fps on default planes at default airports. What am I doing wrong here as I see so many posts about great frame rates and their systems are lower end than mine? What can I do to get better frame rates and not be watching a slide show? September 15, 200619 yr Hi Jeff,The usual suspects come to mind eg. motherboard chipset drivers and DX9c prior to video drivers. If they're up to date, then it could be video hardware acceleration isn't turned on, which might indicate the video drivers didn't install correctly. It's probably some simple step that was missed or got hosed during the reinstallation and reformat. Your machine should perform muchh better than that.Jim Karnhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg
September 15, 200619 yr Three things that reduce my frame rate are shadows, extremely dense Autogen, and running detailed planes as AI traffic. Of those three, detailed planes as AI is the worst. Even after running Markus Brunner's utility to reduce the impact of detailed planes, I still had to eliminate some; the freeware Maule is an example of a plane that I can't use as AI. R-
September 15, 200619 yr I initially added every livery of PMDG's 747 and LVL-Ds and F1 MD80 and CS 727 to then AIs. It brought my system to the knees. I took every thing out and left it as default AIs.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
September 15, 200619 yr I loaded up the newest ATI drivers before adding DX9c and I did not install new motherboard drivers, btw the motherboard is a ASUS P4S800D-X Motherboard.I did a dxdiag after loading up everything and everything is running normal, during the display tests I never have seen the cube spin that fast.I also loaded the FSX demo and I am getting 1-2 fps with that. September 15, 200619 yr Hey Jeff, here's a thought. Rename your FS9.cfg file to be FS9.ORG, start FS9, go to an airport where you have been getting your lowest frame rate, and see if it is any better running FS9 at its true default settings. If you are still seeing single-digit FRs, then it is likely that you have a problem outside of FS. But, if your frames are better, then check those FS sliders. As an aside, I thought you were supposed to install DX9c before installing the graphics card drivers. R-
September 15, 200619 yr I will give it a shot and I will uninstall the video drivers and redo dx9. Jeff
September 15, 200619 yr Hi Jeff,I believe you need the AGP drivers for the OS to recognize the chipset properly. Here they are: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/vga/...17/AGP_1170.zipJim Karnhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg
September 24, 200619 yr Ok Now heres the kicker on the frame rate problem,as I said before I have a P4 3.2 with a gig of ram and now I went up to a ATI X1600 with 512ram on the card.I installed the latest ATI drivers,I have also before all this reformatted the HD and reinstalled Win XP Pro with all the updates.I just installed the main files for my other progams that I needed than installed FS9 with the update.I ran the main program and with the 172 at KSEA,now I just made all the sliders to normal and running at 1024x768.I am getting frame rates of 10-12fps with max frames set at 20.I than loaded the PSS 757 and getting frame rates of 6-7 fps in the 2d cockpit and in the VC down to 3.I set their refrash rates at 6 fps per the PSS forum. My main question is what is wrong here and how do I fix it? September 24, 200619 yr Did you ever reinstall the motherboard chipset drivers? With essentially the same problem on two video cards here's what I'd do next: Reinstall the chipset drivers that came with the motherboard (probably not the latest but I'd use them anyway as that will eliminate one point of potential failure). Reboot. Then remove the ATI drivers and reboot. Next, install the Cat. 6.8's (they appear to be the most stable of the recent drivers) and reboot. Then reinstall DX9c and reboot. I'd also delete the FS9.cfg file and let FS9 rebuilt it on the first run to insure that the video display info is correct.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. September 25, 200619 yr Doug I will try that and let you know ,I did flash the bios after I reinstalled the drivers but will try this in the morning when I get home. Jeff
September 25, 200619 yr No luck Doug,no change in frame rates.I am at a loss here I cam going to call the MS support and see what they can come up with. Jeff
September 25, 200619 yr One other thing I'd do - reinstall FS9 with no addons at all. Or, maybe that's already been done. But with all the chipset drivers and video drivers as they should be it just makes no sense that the framerates are where they are. Maybe one of the addons is hosing things. Anyway, it's worth a try.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
