Consider this - Hardware finally to show off FS9

Featured Replies

How long as FS9 been out? We all know the answer and we all have been battling frame rates and blurries for all that time. In preparation of FSX I decided to build a new computer. State of the art. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (running at 2.7Ghz) (2) ATI 1900XTX (crossfire cards) 2G DDR2.. blah blah blah.... I reinstalled FS9.1 with every add on know to man. GEpro, UT, PMDG, Genesis, etc etc and to my amazement FS9 runs like a dream with EVERYTHING maxed out 1920 x1200 on a Dell 24". No Blurries, max frame rate 6x AA, 16x AS (Crossfire). No concerns about frame rate hits due to clouds or 3rd party airports. FS9 in this configuration blows FSX out of the water. (maybe FSX water is better) The issue here is the software is WAY ahead of the hardware. I am sure in a few years the same will occur with FSX. It occurs to me the the current hardware has just caught up with FS9 so we will have to wait a few years to get FSX performing like this. In the meantime we will tweak, modify files, argue on the best work rounds to improve frame rate by 1 or 2fps. For what. Get FS9 setup will all the great 3rd party add-on and go flying.Regards,Andrew:-sun1

Andrew By a strange coincidence i am also an Andrew B.Thats an interesting post of yours because something similar has happened to me.I also bought FSX and along with most others have been disappointed with the performance on my machine.anyway i decided to upgrade my Gcard from a very basic(but actually a good performer)Radeon 9200 to a Gforce 6600 now i know the 6600 is not a super stonker in itself but it had generally good reviews and was in my price range, now i didn't really expect it to make a great deal of difference to FSX(and it didn't really)but what a surprise in FS9 its like having a new sim(the old 9200 was game but what a difference with this card(fog is fabulous;-) )clouds look much better i can now run at 1280 1024 with just about everything shoved to the right and FSGlobal SE looks great and seems anyway to be more solid(less higgle and jiggle as you fly over it)So thank you FSX you have done me a favour.PS i wish i had resisted the temptation to buy FSX and just stuck with the new card and an upgraded power supply for my setup.Cheers and good flyingAndy

He he.... Andrew.I was going to post something similar. You beat me to it. I have been slowly porting over the FS9.1 from my old PC into the new one that I have for FSX. Originally didn't have any intention of installing FS9 here. But now, FS9 looks like its going to have a long shelf life.:)Manny

Beta tester for SIMStarter

Just did the same myself just over a month ago.Had every intention of using the new PC only for FSX. Well, as it turns out, I got fed up waiting for my pre-order and installed FS9 and my addons. It was SO fluid and smooth that I ended up getting the credit card out and buying UT Europe and Flight Environment to go with GE, AS and various other addons.Flying the LDS767 is truly magnificent with the 'new' sim. GE,FE,UT and FSG mesh is a fantastic combination.FPS is locked at 24fps and rarely budges (maybe to 23.1!) I can throw all the weather you can imagine at it and at max cloud density it's still sticks at 24fpsI do 'like' FSX......I just dont feel like I have the time to do it justice right now with endless tweaking needed etc. FS9 is just perfectly flyable AND enjoyable for me right now with all my addons and AI etc. Plus, the very reason I purchased this PC was for FSX and it still isn't good enough!FSX will get the odd flight from me, just as FS9 did when I installed it. Back then FS8 was my primary sim as FS9 was just too demanding on my XP 2700+ 512mb RAM machine.I can see much potential with FSX, but I think it will be 6 months at least before we see any real gains and ironed out some bugs.Hopefully by then we will have SP1 and be well on the way to the DX10 upgrade patch.MS seem comitted to the franchise so hopefully patches for bug corrections etc will be more forthcoming this time round. My only real 'gripe' is the limitation of the Navteq data in more remote parts of the world. Many of these areas are less accurate and a step backwards from FS9, which is really not acceptable in my book.Glenn
