Alienware Area 51
Hi , Is anyone using the Alienware Area 51 for P3D? I am about to launch down the path of a new computer... Up until know I have always built my own machines. Price is not the concern maxing out P3D and a good frame rate is the key objective Intel® Core™ i7-5930K Processor (6-cores, 15MB Cache, Overclocked up to 3.9 GHz w/ Turbo Boost) ntel® Core™ i7-5960X Processor (8-cores, 20MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.0 GHz w/ Turbo Boost) Is it worth spending the extra on the 5960X? I am also thing about the SLI version. Cheers Andrew

Transition from FSX
I have been using FSX for many years, flying on line with Vatsim and have a vast library of scenery and planes... I am considering moving to Prepar3d but before I do I want to get a better understanding of the licensing. For an experienced of user of FSX which licence option should I take and is this a one off fee? Thanks Andrew

FSX 3D Vision 2
I have been using the Nvidia 3d option for sometime and its very easy to check the frame rate differrence all you do is press the button the Nvidia receiver and you are back to 2D..... Seriously there is no difference on my system. All the 3D monitors run at 1920X1080 so again no impact on frame rate moving from 23" to 27" just more realestate... I flying in 3D windows mode this way I can still use Squakbox and have adjusted contract and brightness through the Nvidia control panel. Nvidia 3D series 2 fixes a lot of issue compared to series 1 and if you fly reguarly in 3D this is worth the upgrade the Ausus 27" monitor is packaged with the Nvidia 3D series 2 package.. Andrew

FSX 3D Vision 2
I have been using Nvidia 3D Ver1 with a 23" Alienware monitor for ages... I agree with the comments above BUT one you are hooked on 3D there is no going back... The PMDG 737NX looks amazing... I use FSX in 3D with Squakbox & Vatsim (in windows mode) with no issues.... Once you get use to where the hot spots and buttons are (slight off to the right) in the virtual cockpit you are good to go. I will be puchasing ASUS 27" pack shortly... I dont expect a massive difference but with a bigger monitor and bigger lens in the glasses its going to be awesone. Andrew.

FSX in 3D
To use the 3D Nvidia shutter glasses setup you must have a 120Hz monitor the shutter works at 60 hz for each eye... You can only use a lesser Hz monitor if you use the colour glasses ... "Old school technology"Frame rate is the same for each eye ... remember its the glasses doing the work not the computer, no you don't need a computer twice as fast. On my system the frame is the same with or without the 3D glasses.Hope this helps.Andrew Missed this question... just posted reply

FSX in 3D
Correct should be Hz... so 120hz Computer Monitor 60hz each eyeCheersAndrew

FSX in 3D
The technology used in the Nvidia setup is the same as 3D TV the only difference is the mhz of the TV ... Computer Monitor 120mhz or 60mhz each eye, 3D TV 200mhz or 100mhz each eye. The shutter technology is the same albeit each company has minor difference so you cannot interchange the glasses. The benefit of 3D TV is the size of the screen. I am running FSX in 1920x10800p on my Alienware monitor.Andrew

FSX in 3D
There is no comparison between between the coloured glasses and the shutters. It would be like comparing back & white to HD colour. To answer your questionsNo problem with the coloursBrightness is fine and can be adjusted I use the defaultPAPI are double (this is the only issue noted by NvidiaHandling knobs in the VC can been a bit tricking if you are not close enough... I use the trackir and move in a bit closer then it OKYou can pull up the 2D panel if you like ... I have not found a solution to Squawkbox.... maybe by using another monitor you could drag the squakbox panel across. If there is a fix for this I would greatly appreciate the solutionVFR or IFR flying this is the 3D is the way to go.... I have being using flight sim since the very first version over 25years ago and in my opinion this is the biggest leap forward.Bear in mind to get the best out FSX you need a heavy duty machine.Andrew

FSX in 3D
Hi all,I have just discovered 3D for FSX and it is fantastic... you have to experience it to believe the difference. The only problem I can see is the aircraft and runway light positions everything else is fine. I am using the Nvidia 3D shutter glass kit with an Alienware 23.6 120 mhz monitor. You get totally immersed in the 3D world and fly for hours. I just completed a flight from Brisbane (Australia) to Melbourne (Aus) in the Level D 767 using ORBX scenery... stunning. Clicking the knobs on the VC can be a bit challenging but you can always pull up the 2D panel. :( :(

Solid State Drive and FSX
Folks,I have search the forum and cannot come up with much on SSDD and FSX. I am planning to update my system to Windows 7 over the holidays and in the process update my HDD. The plan is to use a Gskill Falcon II 128G for the OS and FSX and Seagate 1.5T for all other stuff. Has anyone compared the benifits of running FSX + addons on a SSDD rather than a HDD?Thanks for any advice.Andrew
