Blurry Menu Bar

Featured Replies

Not so very important compared with all the recent fixes, but one of the issues I now have now, is that the characters on the Menu Bar at the top are all blurred and hard to read. With a 1280 x 1024 it's ok: with 2560 x 1024 it apparent, but with 3840 x 1024 TripleHead2Go the letters are mostly unreadable. This is full screen at 3840, with Windowed mode for the other sizes. I've played with the minimal controls that ccc gives you, but it doesn't change them. Would any of you have any ideas at all? I'm stumped on this one.

Are you running supersample AA? That's probably the culprit if so. It AAs everything on the screen, which apparently includes the menu bar.

Thanks for the reply Ryan: I've tried Super, Multi, Adaptive Multi, & Super; I've tried mipmaps up/down; I've tried AA & AF in all the positions: I think I'm stuck with it, and think it's more to do with Matrox & Windows7, than it is with CCC; but I'm no genius and I figured if I have it - someone else has had it too. I expect tomorrow I'll find the menu bar doesn't work with the Shader mod.... :(

You could try the widescreengamingforum.com if the answer is not here. Have not encountered that issue myself, so sorry, no clue.

I had the same problem on both my setup (and an old desk top with a agp3850 in it)the ccc slider Mipmap Detail level solves the issue for me by having it on High Quality.just been trying to replicate it again and yes the menue bar became alittle fuzzy in windows mode and unreadable in full screen, I was also moving the slide bar for 'wait for vetical refresh rate as well, so this may have a bearing on it as well.

Yes, this also happens to me as well......I see it on occasion.Bill Clark

OneBob - you are now worth a quid!! I opened CCC - mipmap was on the second pip, moved it to full right and it fixed it! Repeated the exercise twice more to be sure, and that was it, my friend. I owe you one. Many Thanks. Ain't tweaking fun! :( and thanks to all who responded, too.

Catalyst Control Center, Bill: it's the display control interface that comes with all ATI gpu's. Something like nVidia's nTuner. The Menu Bar at the top of the FSX window when you're flying was the problem: I couldn't read the words. There are no FSX sliders involved here. Clearer? :(

If you wish to learn more, here is a good start:-http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.htmlThere is an advanced menue in CCC as well. The problem Paul mentions is when you Press the ALT button to bring up the FSX menue Bar the text is corrupt and unreadable, worse in full screen mode.(i also had some corruption of aircraft modles as well)I spent hours on my old P4 desktop installing a 3850AGP card and had the same problem on the spec listed below before I came across the mipmap slider bar had to be moved to high quality.it may be a problem with the CCC drivers. my ccc settings are (added for info Paul, you may be interested, and maybe use to ATI users as a starter for tweaking)smoothvision HD AA.......ticked.. use application settigssmoothvision HD AF.......ticked.. use application settigsCatalyst AI...................unticked.. for the 'Disable catalysr AI' and set as standardMipmap detail level.........to the right for quality giving High Quatity settingWait for vertical refresh.........to the right for quality giving always onAdaptive -AA....................unticked agaisnt enable Adaptive Anti-Aliasingopen GL unticked for the tripple bufferingfor the FSX.cfg my tweaks are:-[Display]TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80TextureMaxLoad=9UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=18WideViewAspect=TrueRUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.2 RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.2RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.2RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0[GRAPHICS]SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=41 // Increment this number EVERYTIME you change fsx.cfg (it simply rebuilds the shader cache)// SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693458433 STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=1024 // Try 10 as well.. but 1024 should give you a perfect smooth experience when using vsync ON ForceFullScreenVSync=1ForceWindowedVSync=1HIGHMEMFIX=1[bufferPools]UsePools=1PoolSize=3072000RejectThreshold=98304these settings give me stutter free flights in PNW but with some pauses I cant get rid of.I have also in XP property settings set the visual effects to best performance which cuts out abit of shimmering.so its possible to get good results on a low to mid set upmy slider settings in fsx are as sugested by ORBX

OK, thanks!I'm using enHancer since I have an Nvidia card.So I need to figure out what setting I need to implement for my situation. Will those fsx.cfg settins fix the blurry menue bar?Bill Clark

Hi BillI thought the 'blurry menue bar' was an ATI issue, did'nt realise it was an Nvidia problem as well, the 'Mipmap detail level' adustment on the ATI cards did the trick, all I can suggest is there a similar setting with your cards driver software settings, I also thought it was a driver problem with ATI but it may be just an font/text problem

No, I'm seeing it with an Nvidia card.It seems to come and go depending on the complexity of the scenery and the aircraft. It will be alright for a while, and then all of a sudden it becomes unreadable.I have to imagine other Nvidia card users have to be seeing this.Bill

I always thought this was an ATI-only problem too. In fact, it was not a problem for a while, but seems to be back with the 10.2-10.4 drivers...Thanks all!

Interesting part is that (for me) it only occurs when I use the full 3840 x 1024: if I run FSX on one monitor there's no problem. I had a nice single Gateway 19" 1680 x 1050 before, and it never had the issue. I think that the load on the gpu might have some bearing on it as well. It's nice to know I wasn't the only one.
