November 16, 200619 yr do u guys know how i can change my video card anti-aliasing setting? i have a nvidia geforce 6200 LE, i seen posting around of users using 4x anti-aliasing as well as another setting with 4x..i have AMD +3500 Dual Core x64 processor 1 GIG of ram, can u help?
November 16, 200619 yr Use the control panel for the drivers, not the sim.But I doubt 4x AA is going to work with a 6200 LE card. Y9ou might be able to get away with 2x but that will be about it, if you want aceptable fps.Allcott
November 16, 200619 yr thx you, i tried switching it to 4x and 2x and when ever i start fs9 my vid card just freezes and goes all crazy looking, do i keep the anti aliasing checked in the fs9 display menu or do i uncheck that and let the vid card do the work?
November 16, 200619 yr Uncheck it in FS9 and use the graphics driver to set the level. You may also want to try a newer, or at the very least a different, driver version if you still have issues.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
November 16, 200619 yr Gary, (and allcott):I have found that with some cards and some drivers, you CANNOT control the anti-aliasing you see in FSX via the driver at all.The only way to control it is that check box in the FSX display settings, so it's either on, or off. That does not seem to be universally true, however. That may be the problem the OP is having.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
November 16, 200619 yr Rhett. (and Gary)I think you are right.,,.the nVidia 8800 has 16XQ AntiAliasing and 16X Anisimopheric (Spl?) and what not... But no matter what I do with them, it has no effect on FS9/FSX.I am thinking...Thats its something I am doing.I spent a lot of time the last 2 days on it...Hmmmm..............Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 16, 200619 yr Oh, I thought we were talking FS9 (see third message in this thread). If it's FSX, then I've found AA and AF can only be turned on / off within FSX.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
November 17, 200619 yr Regardless whether we are talking FS9, the solution is to delete the lines in the FS9/FSX. cfg file relating to the driver settings, then prepare the settings you wish to use in the card control panel, sabing them as a Profile if necessary, then launching the sim. At boot up the sim will launch with low res and no settings for AA/AF. Change the settings to the resolution you want, AF to Trilinear and AA OFF and you will force the game to recognise the control panel selections.I have looked in the FS9 display.cfg (the ONLY place where limitations as to the effectiveness of the settings can be applied) and there is no reference to the 6200LE, so this `FS overrriding` is a crock. It's either a driver issue, or a card limitation. With the 6200LE it could be either. Update the drivers! With the 8800, I doubt very much it's a card limit! Brand new card + new drivers = heaps of potential problems. There are a new range of 100-series drivers specifically for the 8800 on the horizon. That could be why!Allcott
November 17, 200619 yr Allcott,do you mean, delting the following from the fs9.cfg?"[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX.0]Mode=1920x1200x32TriLinear=1AntiAlias=1"? I did that.. but when I started FS9, it did not go to low resolution. I then Unchecked the FS9 Antialiasing etc.... and still not effect.I then left the sim and came backl in and still no change. It does not seem to have any affect from the nVidia settings. Its only reacting to FS9 settings. What am I doing wrong?Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 17, 200619 yr Are you sure you are ameding the RIGHT FS9.cfg file and that its properties allow it to be amended (i.e. its NOT protected)? It is quite easy to get in a muddle if you don't have Windows set to show the full path name including the suffixes for known associations, as there can be both FS9.cfg and a backup called FS9.cfg.txt on your hard drive. It is also possible to pick up on an old or backup FS9.cfg by mistake.Simple solution: search for ALL references of FS9*.cfg* on your computer. Delete them ALL into the Recycle folder.Restart FS, let it create a new FS9.cfg (yes you will lose any special settings or non-standard assignments, but we will get them back). Now quit FS.Search AGAIN for FS9.cfg on the hard drive. Your system will find not only the new FS9.cfg in the Documents and Settings folder, but also the versions in the recycle tray. Hover the mouse over the new, genuine FS9.cfg and note its full file address. Do the same to each of the recycled files until you find the one with the exact same address as the new one you created. Restore that file, overwriting the new one when prompted. Finally, clear the recycle tray to get rid of the rubbish. Now you have one and one only FS9.cfg. Make a shortcut to it on your Windows desktop so you can click to open in future. Allcott
November 17, 200619 yr And one extra tip:Be sure you are not opening the FSX.cfg when you are making changes to FS9, and vice versa. ;) As I have said before I have a separate profile under XP for my FS stuff so I only have the icons I want for FS on the FS desktop. I have divided those into three areas: Left hand side for all FSX stuff, including shortcuts to FSX.cfg and the FSX main folder, Right hand side for all the FS9 stuff, including icons for all the addons like GE Pro, UT, Flight Sim Manager, all the confg managers for aircraft addons anc scenery menus, and the MIDDLE of the screen for icons that apply to both. Active Sky for example.Allcott
November 17, 200619 yr Allcott.this is what I did. After I took a backup of fs9.cfg I deleted it and started FS9. and yes..it went to basic like I had to set my proper resolution and everything from scratchBut.. I have antialiasing and all the nvidea settings not working in FS9.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 17, 200619 yr OK, lets get back to basics:What screen resolution?Full screen or windowed? What drivers? What driver settings in the cards control panel? Have you created a new Profile for FS?Allcott
November 18, 200619 yr >OK, lets get back to basics:>>What screen resolution?1920 x 1200 x 32>Full screen or windowed?Windowed>What drivers?97.02 (Valid only for the 8800)>What driver settings in the cards control panel? http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/161364.jpg>Have you created a new Profile for FS?What do you mean by profile? You mean one specific for FS9 in that tab "Program Settings"? I tried with setting one for FS9 and one for FSX and then initially inheriting everything from the Global settings.. Once I realized It didn't change anything I removed them./ But I have tried using one specific for FS9. Right now. I have only a Glbal setting for both FS9 and FSX.>>Allcott Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
