Antialiasing ? setiing help?

Featured Replies

It would be nice if the MSFS display choices included one more:A checkbox that said:Your video card controlls these settings. Then, MSFS could grey out its stuff which would confirm the fact that your video card is in control.

Right, the problem is quite simply that you are running in Windowed mode. All Nvidia cards pick up on the desktop settings when run in windowed mode.So either run in Full Screen, or change your Global setting to match what you want in FS.Simple, really.Allcott

Hi,First off, thanks for the reply.Video cards ... setups ... and combining that with what you are clicking on in MSFS always leaves you wondering if you are doing the right thing!I read a thread some time ago that basically said .. think it was new directX drivers .. just tell your video to do it and it would not matter what was clicked on in MSFS.Thus, reading can itself lead to confusion.I have an ATI x800 PCI-e 128MB cardWonder if the same applies here or only to Nvidia or all cards?Best Regards,

I'm no expert on ATI cards (it's been years since I last had one) but IIRC ATI cards don't have the full-screen limitation of Nvidia, due the different driver architecture.Allcott

Allcott.I di d that in full screen mode and it made no difference. If I unclick antialsiasing and none to the other settings (in FS9), I get nothing. No matter whats in my Driver config.MAnny

All right..I figured this out.The mistake I was making is.. after changing the settings in the nVidia control panel. I did not exit FS9 and then come back in. I was thinking that it would take effect when I hit "apply" in the nvidia control panel. Nope. Everytime I change the settings in the nvidia panel, I have to exit and come back into FS9. Duh!I have the setting as hardware to override my application. And yet in FS9. I cannot have "none" selected. I have to have trilinear. Weather I have Antialiasing or not within FS9. it doesn't matter. But for safekeeps I have that selected too. and now...my FS9 looks great.Manny

If I might add to this...if any of you notice, earlier in this thread (about a month ago) I could NOT get my AA and AF set in the driver. It simply did not work for me--AA and AF had to be set in the sim, or I got no AA or AF at all.But now, I have gotten it working. Disabled AA in the sim, and set it thru the driver. I'm not sure if installing new drivers kicked it in, or if simply enough fiddling made it work. And man, does it look GREAT and perform WELL.There IS indeed a visual improvement between FSX's AA checked vs. my nVidia 7800 card's 8x AA.And manny you should in fact set filtering to "Trilinear" in the sim, and then set a reasonable AF in your driver, since AF will stack onto your Trilinear.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Hi Rhett.Yeah.. I have the Trilinear selected within the Sim. The confusion was whenever I kept changing the nVidea control panel settings and hitting apply. didn't work. I had to exit and comeback in. That was an epipheny (Durh!) moment. And yes..the 8800GTX 16X antialiasing is so much better than the sims. The airport scenery in Flight scneries Portits spot on. land was all shiney shimmering. Now, Those grills and bridges are spot on. :)Manny
