New PC, much improved FPS

Featured Replies

After the o/c to 3.2ghz I am pretty much high 20's - low 30's in the cities now. I can fly right through seattle and the lowest fps i get is high 20's at 3840x1024 with most settings to around 3/4. The o/c gave me about 7 fps more performance. :) Even in new york city with full complexity and normal autogen i am low 20's. Chicago is a full 30fps at those settings. This machine pretty much gave me 2.5x the performance of my old p4 3.6. The 3.6 machine also was using my 8800gts so it wasnt just the card. Fsx is cpu limited anyway so the only thing the 8800 does is allow me to run high AA and AF. I didnt see any noticeable performance gains from any other games though as the p4 3.6 machine and 8800gts pretty much allowed me to run them all maxed anyway since most games these days are gpu dependent after a certain level of processor is used with them.Dave

Good CPU eh:)Its like being back in the early 90's 100%+ increase in frame rate.I'm getting double performance in many other games ( most are Racing sims which thrive on on CPU power though). What it did for me me in FSX is it stopped me tweaking, and got me flying and for that alone its worth it.Intel are not advertising this chip properly, I thought I was going to get about 30% improvement at best based on benchmarks.EnjoyJohn

Stop making me excited!:( My max resolution is 1280x1024 so it should be all smooth sailing. I'm looking forward to max water settings and a lot less blurries. Man I can't wait until my pc arrives, how about some screenshots?:)

Dont get too excited for max water settings. I can run many sliders at the highest levels now with 30fps but water is not one of them. I keep it at 1 high for the frame rate. 2 high cuts my frames in half even with the 8800 card. I think 2 high looks a little ridiculous anyway with all that glare and shimmer. I actually prefer 1 high to 2 medium. I flew through san fran tonight in the bell and was low 30's fps the whole way. Crazy framerate now. With my old machine i was around 14fps with much lower slider settings. Ive got a single niggling bug to work out of the machine but it runs fsx like a dream and the fluidity now is awesome. For the life of me i cant see how that guy with the core2 extreme pc overclocked to 3.9ghz was getting such bad framerates. With a few of the known tweaks that took me 5 minutes to do with no loss in visuals, im a solid 30-50 anywhere in the world now. Makes you wonder...

Astrodave, indeedGreat results! Things are really promising.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Could you post pictures with your fps?

who,...me?I think you intended to respond to the original poster, but you responded to me instead.I can post some screens of my fps if you want, but I can tell you I get anywhere from 12 to 60 fps. Of course I lock at 25 most times...RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

I took some shots lastnight of the seattle area but haven't installed all of my software yet so i couldn't upload them to my ftp. Ill link them whenever i finish my installs. Been spending so much time testing, gaming, and benchmarking that i haven't had time. :) Solid 30+ fps looking at downtown seattle at 3840x1024 rez with settings from midrange to full depending on what they do. Ok here are the links to some new pics that show the framerate i get in seattle. I even just upped the autogen to dense and the frame rate hit was minor. These pics were taken with most scenery sliders 3/4 to full except for water which was at 1 high and autogen which was at normal. They are at 3840x1024 and are a bit large which is why i linked them. Most major cities are in the high 20's low 30's for me with these settings, so the game can and does run pretty well when you throw hardware at it and spend a few minutes tweaking.http://www.astrodave.net/fsx/seattle1.jpghttp://www.astrodave.net/fsx/seattle2.jpghttp://www.astrodave.net/fsx/hollywood.jpg

Your water looks very FS9ish and the autogen is a bit sparse, but otherwise nice screenies and FPS.Gary

OK, i upped the water to 2/low and the autogen to dense for you and the screenies are below. Takes a chunk of frame rate to go from 1 to 2 on water but honestly i prefer the look of level 1 water as level 2 seems wile E. coyote looking to me. To each his own.http://www.astrodave.net/fsx/seattle3.jpghttp://www.astrodave.net/fsx/seattle4.jpg

Ouch! :-( I thought it would look better then that. There are still blurries I see.

>Ouch! :-( >I thought it would look better then that. There are still>blurries I see.Exactly what I was thinking but he is running it on 3840x1024 so maybe that's why the shots have blurry textures.

There are still>>blurries I see.>>>Exactly what I was thinking but he is running it on 3840x1024>so maybe that's why the shots have blurry textures.I thought so too, until I realized I wasn't seeing the actual size, once I blew it up in the browser it looked better on my Projector (Limited to 1280X1024X32 - but it's an 8 foot screen!). I'm sure it looks much better on his screen, at that res. This is what I see in the same area. I have a E6700 2GB ATI X1900XTX 512MB Crossfire cards. Currently running in non crossfire mode since I'm using ATI Tray Tools whih doesn't support it. Not a big loss except my AA options are reduced from 14X to 6X with with their temperal AA. Like SLI, iether FSX nor FS9 takes advantage of Crossfire so no loss in performance there!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163635.jpg
