January 8, 200719 yr I plan on buying the Core 2 Duo CPU e6300 to replace my Pentium d 945 Pressler. Everyone says its much faster. If I swap out the CPU and nothing else am I going to have to reinstall FSX?Gary
January 8, 200719 yr You'll have to change motherboard too, plus RAM, pretty much your main system stuffAnd in that case you prolly would have to reactivate it and definitely reinstall itUnless your mobo can take the C2D processor...im not too familiar with intel mobos thoughDid you build the system yourself? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 8, 200719 yr Author My mobo is an sockett LGA775 (Ausu P5ND2-SLI) so I will not have to change anything else. just the CPU. Will I have to reinstall if thats all I am changing?Gary
January 8, 200719 yr Hmmmm, in that case I might say you'd have to reactivate it...it really depends thoughSome users are reporting that they are swapping entire mobos and they dont have to reactive, others add a 2nd HDD and they do...I would guess FSX will see it as a different PC, but I'm not sure...you could always call MS and see | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 8, 200719 yr I'm sure FS9 will work, all 5 installations of it. (FS9 ,FS9 Golden Wings, FS9 Silver Wings, FS9 1975, FS9 VOZ. I'm not describing your set up but mine to display the drawbacks to the activation system and where todays software is headed with all the antipiracy bull... Bottom line is it's a big hassle for the regular guy who wen't out and paid for FSX and not for the guy that downloaded it cracked from bittorrent. I will probably have to go through the same thing since I am also in the process of upgrading my system to a Core 2 duo and I do have to change the motherboard as well.Regards, Carlos

Will I have to>reinstall if thats all I am changing?>>>Gary>>>Gary, I just reinstalled FSX on an AMD Quad.Reactivation was instant, on line. When you install FSX it evaluates your machine and sets the sliders to whatever their routine thinks is best to start out with.On my old machine they were almost all the way to the left. This time they were about 3/4 toward the right side with global at massive, full right. Autogen about 2/3 to the right. FSX now runs smooth as silk @ 40-44 FPS at busy airports, at KJFK, it's between 34-38. Very smooth. This machine can record movies like you read about.
January 9, 200719 yr You might want to double check here:http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspxI don't see any dual core CPUs in the list for your motherboard. Even though they use the same socket, they may not work with some motherboards. (My Intel 915GEV board is LGA775 but won't support a Core 2 Duo either, but replacing the motherboard and CPU is better then having to replace the entire system, especially since I could do the motherboard first, and save up to do the CPU later. My old 3.4Ghz P4 should work fine in a more modern motherboard.)"Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

If I>swap out the CPU and nothing else am I going to have to>reinstall FSX?>I would say most likely you will have to re-activate.I do not know the inner workings of FSX's activation scheme, but with Windows XP, the software looks at several factors (CPU, ram, hd) and assigns them a value, and if the hardware changes exceed a certain limit set in the software, the OS will require re-activation.That's why some people can do a small upgrade and not have to reactiv. while others must.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
