February 23, 200719 yr Thanks Mike,I've been using 7.1 CCC for a few weeks now without any glitches so I guess I might have been lucky!!! It is a resource hog, that's for sure.Do you just update the driver only when a new version comes out? The instructions on the ATI site have me looking for something called ATI Software Uninstall Utility, which doesn't exist, as well as for other ATI entries and something called DAO. I only have 2 ATI entries, one for CCC and another for the display driver. If I want to switch to ATT, I would:1) remove CCC, then restart computer2) remove display driver, then restart (if necessary)3) install new driver4) install ATTIs that correct? I'm a little anxious about this since one post earlier indicated that 7.2 drivers didn't like ATT.Thanks in advance,Chris
February 23, 200719 yr ATT and CCC will co-exist nicely. (If you really want them to)Just check the ATT forums........The CCC in 7.2 seems to be a lot better in terms of footprint.I thin they have done a pretty good job this time.Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
February 23, 200719 yr Yes, Chris, that should do it.**REMEMBER TO CREATE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE DOING ANYTHING**Don't worry, even if it all goes pear shaped, just take a deep breath and start again. The main thing is to first ensure you have cleaned out your previous drivers. It's worth taking a little time over this before taking the plunge and installing a fresh set. After you have removed the previous driver set, and rebooted, Windows will offer to install drivers. Just cancel (usually twice) out of this. After my last problems I ran bog standard VGA for a week just to reassure myself that the system was stable. Turned out System was indeed stable albeit painfully slow :( However, it did confirm my diagnosis that the previous faulty installation was to blame for all my difficulties.BTW, if you want to prevent XP from reinstalling 3rd party drivers you will have to clean out the CAB file with the 'Cab Cleaner' provided under 'Tools' in Driver Cleaner. Leave the SP2 Cab file alone. However, this, I believe, produces an irksome side effect: A 'severe' warning appears during the driver installation which states something like 'Zero Display Error'. I found I could simply ignore it and the installation would complete regardless. Cleaning out the driver.cab file is not mandatory, but many do advocate performing this action to ensure a perfect clean install with no chances of conflict.Remember, don't panic if things don't work out first time around. Just take your time and you'll be fine. You may find this link informative:http://searchwincomputing.techtarget.com/t...ml?topic=298512Mike
February 23, 200719 yr Mike thanks for the tip on cleaning out the Driver.cab file! That seemed to do the trick for me. I had to go back to 6.12 but so far, it's been the most stable it's been. The 7 series, just don't seem to do good with the X1950XTX's. The other thing I was doing wrong, was I been cleaning out the ATI entries using the driver cleaner (After of course uninstalling all ATI related sofware and driver, and rebooted, but I ran it on a normal boot, not safe mode!! So that probably had something to do with it! Right now I just installed the driver, and using the ATI Tray tools. Which is better than the CCC except it doesn't suport Xfire at the moment, although it looks like Ray is working on that now!! So there's hope yet. ATI just has to solve the issue with the X1950 cards with the 7 series drivers, and I think I'll be all set. For now though the 6.12's are working fine (Knock on wood!!!)Thanks! February 23, 200719 yr Thanks Mike,This info combined with the info on tweakguides have elevated some of my anxiety.Best regards,Chris
February 23, 200719 yr Chris,"elevated some of my anxiety"Oh, I do hope you meant to say "alleviate" otherwise I will start to worry...LOL!If you've been visiting TweakGuides.com I hope you have downloaded the excellent Tweaking Companion by Koroush Ghazi. Lots of good and well researched stuff there: http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.htmlRegards,Mike
February 23, 200719 yr Yep, alleviate!!! Morning coffee hadn't kicked in.Yep, I'm making my way through the 175 page guide.Regards,Chris
February 23, 200719 yr Author Well, I am back from Tray Tools to CCC since as stated earlier by someone else Tray Tools won't hold settings for the new 7.2's. I have checked for updates and have yet to find any. Also, I don't know if anyone has tried the new tree textures referenced in another recent thread, but I tried them with the new 7.2's and to me, it doesnt matter when the patch comes out, its running like butter and looks realistic as ever. happy tweaking...Danon
