March 5, 200719 yr Hi all. I have been considering getting flight petals. First, do they really make a great difference to the flight sim experience? I have rudder control on my Saitek X45 and it works ok, but it's not a foot petal. Do petals really make a difference?Second, what is the best? I have been looking at the Saitek Pro and the CH? I have read that CH only works with other CH products so maybe I should get the Saitek just for that reason if true.Opinions anyone?

Do petals really make a>difference?Depends on what you fly. If you are into bigger airliners, they are not that important (although, they do help and improve the general feeling). If you prefer to fly smaller planes with a lot of manual flying, they definitely provide a big improvement. If you also fly helicopters, then pedals will redefine the way you do it. You will never want to go back to a twisting grip stick or any other way of controlling the rudder.>Second, what is the best? I have been looking at the Saitek>Pro and the CH? I have read that CH only works with other CH>products so maybe I should get the Saitek just for that reason>if true.CH are certainly a good choice, I don't have any experience with Saitek. Personally, I still use my quite old thrustmaster pedals and I'am not going to part with them as long as they are still working.http://www.goflightinc.com/contest.shtmlThese look like a very good piece of hardware, although the price tag is hefty
March 5, 200719 yr they are a must if you fly GA. Rudders are needed to acheive clean turns in small planes (plus a bunch of other needs). The twist handle style found in joysticks makes it very difficult..and it just doesn't "feel" right..... Judging from you signature, you fly a lot of heavies...in which case they are not as necessary. -feng
March 5, 200719 yr IMHO Essential! ... for Heli's, GA and Heavies.... I recommend the CH pedals because you get toe braking as well which will help you negotiate those taxiways ..... and you know how hard it is to taxi in FS ! :-lol regardsEdaka Capt. March 5, 200719 yr Absolutely essential for simming as opposed to FS video gaming...I use the PFC Cirrus pedals. Pricey, but built like the proverbial brick %$&^%-house. They're steel, not plastic, and will last a lifetime, with the occasional changeout of the pots.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
March 5, 200719 yr I have the CH and the new Saitek pedals. The CH ones developed a problem in the left toe brake and I they are with CH now for repair. I bought the Saitek and like them better ($116.00 on line purchase). CH will work as they are USB connected, so it doesn't matter which joystick or yoke is used. Pedals are not really an advantage with heavies except using them for taxi control or in heavy crosswind situations.JimEDIT P.S. Toe braking is also a function with the Saitek's
March 5, 200719 yr Last week one of my right toe brake wires broke for the third time since I bought my CH Pro pedals about eight years ago now. I've repaired it myself each time, and I am quite dismayed at how poorly the wires are run for stress mounting. Hopefully the newer ones have fixed this design issue. In any case, I use my yoke and pedals so much that I'm not surprised a few things have worn down and broken. Nonetheless, it is still one of the best purchases I have ever made for my FS setup! March 6, 200719 yr I meant to say right brake as well instead of left brake. Maybe this is an issue with the CH pedals. Well they promised to fix or replace them for no cost since I was still under warranty. Had to pay shipping though.Jim
March 6, 200719 yr Thanks all for the thoughts!I'll be getting some soon now. I do fly the heavies more in MSFS, but I figure they will be very handy anyway, plus in my combat flight sims!sorry about the typo: pedals ;)
