FS9: Latest nvidia drivers look awful!

Featured Replies

What did NVIDIA do to their latest video drivers, v158.19?No matter what anti aliasing settings, they never go on in the game! everything looks ridiculously wavy.Anyone else see this?Im starting to wish I stayed with the ATI team, nvidias driver team is awful. But at least I can view my aircraft in the preview window... :-roll

Hi, believe it or not, now you have to enable the anti-aliasing box inside FS, and select the mode into the driver, too. The preview will be awful (without aa), but when the program is loaded, it works, and this driver seems to be very fast in my system...Regards. Miquel Egea.

You are left wondering whether anyone, ever, bothers to read these forums before posting selfishly on their own problem anymore? At least two topics on the very same issue, and only a couple of days old. But here we go again.Just how lazy are people becoming?Allcott

Hi Alcott!I don't think it's lazyness. I have a dark suspicion that people DO read these threads, but subsequently refuse to believe the VERY simple solution myself and some others give there. To a mild degree on the various forums, and to a much worse degree in private emails, I have been flamed for attacking people's sacred belief, to wit that under all circumstances AA should be DISabled in FS9. It's become almost religious in nature: anybody who states that with the latest driver/videocard combination AA must be set/enabled in both Nvidia configuration screen AND in FS9, needs to be burned at the stake (would that become stake steak then - grin?)!Yep, it's a fundamentalist issue.Jaap.

Jaap, although I don't doubt for one moment what you say, (how could one doubt a man with such a terrific sense of humour) I have to say it did'nt work for me. The 158.19 were terrible no matter what settings I used, which was a bitter disapointment,as, knowing you on the forum as a sensible, no nonsense sort of guy, I was sure it would work. Like people, computers are funny things it appears. I had to roll back to the 97.94 which is OK, but not the blistering graphics I expected this expensive bit of kit to provide. The E6600 / 8800GTX gives much better fps, but the graphics are no better than my old AMD3500 /XT800gxpe. In fact that gave better graphics with much less AA and AF.Russell.

There are so many variables in giving advice these days, not least because where a few short months ago we were talking about FS2004 with Windows XP, (or at worst Windows 2000), nowadays we could be talking any combination of: FS2004, FSX, Windows XP, 2000, Vista in fifteen flavours, completely dissimilar hardware architecture between sequential Nvidia cards, and the arrival of non-uniform, product-specfic drivers that are still only beta as far as usage under Vista are concerned! All this adds to the confusion, but makes it more important than ever before that people READ before posting. Big Al gives us the wisdom of Homer Simpson, but stupidly doesn't reveal ANY computer specifications whatsoever. Witty signatures are no substitute for providing the necessary INFORMATION. Why should we even bother?Allcott

It didnt work for me..so I had to rollback. No setting AA in the sim did not do it for me.Manny

WOW some of you people are extremely hostile to me for pointing out the sad truth. Do you work for nvidia? if not, kindly feel free to NOT post in this topic. thanks and have a GREAT DAY!

You can't even take the hint to change your useless sig for something that provides some system info? All we can deduce is that you are using an Nvidia 8-series card with Vista. Wow! That narrows it down to what, 5,000,000 combinations as you don't even tell us which sim your are using, nor system and driver specs! As it is, no-one can help you here. Allcott

Al, Nvidia explicitly TELLS us, to wit you and me and everybody, in its (unfortunately overcomplicated i.c. "double") control panel that the HIGHER settings in the panel (like AA higher than 4x) are by definition (unlike previous driver/card combinations) "application controlled". It's not too hard to figure out what this means: you SET the stuff in Nvidia control panel, and ENABLE it in FS9.There's a bit more reading/understanding involved than previously, when the plain and simple rule was: SET in Nvidia control panel, and DISABLE in FS9. Depending on many variables like other software, particular hardware, rig idiosyncrasie and quite possibly the moon phase, dealing with 8800/8600 cards in combination with 158.19 drivers is a "comprehension issue". Some people (like several amazing guys who emailed me with hotly worded suggestions pertaining to shagging myself) simply do not comprehend well.By the way: neither Alcott nor myself work for Nvidia. Alcott is a "Souf Lunnun" lady of questionable but highly enjoyable morals, and I am a retired minor politician. Nothing can be further away from holding a decent position with Nvidia (grin)!Jaap Verduijn.

Its unfortunate but THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR MANY PEOPLE!Thanks for playing! Please exit this topic and go play your grown-up to child nonsense somewhere else. thanks!

when did I ask for help? I am just ranting at the GODAWFUL drivers nivida has been coming out with for a good 5 years. They brought the visiontek guys over to help them and things only became worse. how many driver versions to finally see your airplane in the preview window only to not enable AA on many types of cards?

And the reason why you need to be more specific finally becomes clear: I also have an Nvidia card, and I have none of these problems.S'funny old world. innit?I wasn't aware that using the latest drivers had become compulsory?Allcott
