FS9: Latest nvidia drivers look awful!

Featured Replies

Good grief, now you are on "Big Al's" hexing list too (grin)! Forget helping this guy: he is totally convinced that he is right and we are wrong, that everything we post here is a personal attack on him, that he has no need to post the specifications of his rig because we all should KNOW what rig such an illustrious person has, and that it's his solemn duty to insult everybody who got their own rig working with the new drivers while he can't.Whatever advice you give hem, the very moment you say it works for YOU, you fall from grace. In the mind of the "Big Als" of this world, nothing can work for others if it doesn't for him.Does he go look for the particular issue that prevents him to fully enjoy the 158.* drivers? No, he doesn't. For his rig is perfectly alright (after all, he knows his tweaks!), and it's OUR boxes that stink: they work while his doesn't, so their MUST be something wrong with US and OUR computers.Well now, I'll quite happily accept that! I'm overjoyed for having a computer that's apparently broken because it runs FS9 perfectly with 16x AA set in the 158.19 drivers AND AA enabled in the sim. Much rather a buggered up computer that does what I want it to do, than Big Als perfect rig that can't even run 16X AA! Oh, the joys of knowing less, and having a worse rig, than Big Al (wide and wicked grin)!Jaap Verduijn.

I've tried the 158.19 and the 158.22 I've followed all the tips and advice in this thread. I just can't get AA to work. I set AA in FS, then closed it and set antialaising to "Application controlled" in the Nvidia control panel. That action immediately greys out the AA settings, making it impossible to choose the AA setting. I can only get to choose using either "Enhance" or "Override. I then spent an hour trying every setting possible. About the best I got it was "bloody awfull." Now, I'm not complaining as the 97.94 give me excellent results, I only tried them hoping for the same result as Japp. Maybe there's something I missed, but I have'nt a clue what, or, it's just a case of what works on one rig, does'nt on another.Russell.

Jaap,>>Good grief, now you are on "Big Al's" hexing list too (grin)!<.jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS 2004[/a]

Russell,Just a coupla thoughts...I'm sure you're hitting 'Apply' when you change settings, but are you quitting the CP also? I've seen that make a difference in previous CP versions, where leaving the CP open while running FS had odd results. Also, with all those driver changes, are you getting rid of the old drivers? A few messages above I posted a link to a thread here of my CP settings for the 158.19 drivers, maybe try those settings. Last, when you open the CP again after making changes and quitting, are those changes actually there?Bottom line is like you said, different rigs, cards, etc., who knows.jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS 2004[/a]

Greetings Russell and JB!Let's not allow the Big Als of this world to keep us from trying to figure out WHAT might be the crucial issue that makes the 158.* drivers work for some, and not work for others. So let's share some rig info. What I bought two weeks ago is:FSP Epsilon 700 Watt Quiet power supply;Intel DP965LT Lemont DDR2/1394 mother board;Intel Core2Duo E6600 2.4G 4MB processor;Kingston 2x1GB CL4 DDR2 800 memory;GeForce 8600GTS 256MB PCI-E graphics card;158.19 video drivers. This combination WORKS. What other combinations do, and what others don't? We should, or at least might, get SOMEwhere.Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

what you keep failing to grasp is this: I never ASKED for any help. You decided to run in here with Alcott and throw insults at me, doing your best to stumble over your own words as you try to justify said comments. And how its all my fault for not giving you specifics for "receiving help"? Why do I need any help? I never asked for help, nor do I want help from you. Thank you and please feel free to exit this topic

the big als of this world? wow, your ego is huge. I highly suggest you post a topic on your own explaining to people how to do this without hijacking my topic and insulting me at every chance you can get. its quite pathetic.

"(...) please feel free to exit this topic (...)"You REALLY think you own this little corner of the cyber world, do you?Alright then: you don't need help, you didn't ask for help, and you don't want help. What then, pray, is the purpose of your weeping and wailing and hanging around (apart from amusing me, that is)? Do you contribute anything to solving the "driver enigma", or are you just here for the contrary: distracting us so we stop figuring out how to make the card/driver combination work for EVERYBODY? Could you finally contribute something USEFUL to this thread, please?Jaap Verduijn.

"(...) hijacking my topic (...)"Oh dear, he IS a megalomaniac.Could you finally, please, contribute something USEFUL to "your topic" then, Al? People are trying to help each other here, you know.Jaap Verduijn.

JB, yes, I did all the things you suggest, including copying your CP settings. I noticed that, contrary to what Jaap said, you have it set to "Enhance the Application setting." I think this is what caused the confusion with Big Al. Obviously, like mine, setting it to "Application conrolled" blanks out the settings option. Maybe we should all take a leaf out of Michael Winners book and "Calm down dears, it's only a game." To be honest tho', I'm very happy with the 97.94's and am now getting excellent graphics with lower AA settings. Mind you, it would be interesting to know why the AA fails to work with the 158's on my rig.Intel C2D E6600 2x2.48800GTX 768mbAsus P5B dualDDR22x1GB Corsair xms2 800MHz600w super quite quad rail psuRussell.

Whos talking about "owning"? I'm talking about you not commenting on a topic you have no business commenting on. its quite simple. Would you like me to translate that or do you grasp it?

unfortunately, Jaap doesn't grasp the "helpful tips" he/she is trying to give. Which explains the incorrect comment about setting it to application controlled which would turn off AA entirely except the in-game AA. You should try the latest drivers posted on nvidias website. They do a much better job now and seem to work great with my 8800GTX. you can set it to either override or enhance the application settings, and it works

"(...) a topic you have no business commenting on (...)"Now look, you sorry little leprechaun: it REALLY is not your task, place or responsibility to decide who can post in what thread, and/or give comment on what topic. What do you want to become here? The local cyber bully? Keep it coming, son, keep it coming - once one gets past some initial minor irritation, you sure are a source of amusement (happy grin)!Jaap Verduijn.Little afterthought: would you please, finally, add some USEFUL stuff to this thread? Like about Nvidia, the 158.19 drivers... that sort of thing? Concerning which, the recommended "nHancer control panel" (www.nhancer.com) works very well, and certainly brings a bit of order in the Nvidia control panel mess.

It's my topic now, Al.If you aren't asking for help and you're not providing any information or resources then all I can see of substance in this thread is you complaining about not liking something. It's these threads that lack anything constructive that are hurting this forum.I would suggest re-evaluating your attitude towards the forum before posting again.
