FS9: Latest nvidia drivers look awful!

Featured Replies

Miguel,so you're saying to ignore the way acft looks in a preview window and go straight to the set and see it there? Cuz with me any setting I try in 8800GTS menue and FS dont change the way the preview acft looks - crap. Why AA 8xQ specifically? 16x possible? Btw, what is Q in these options. Sorry if I sound lame...

Same here. No matter what combo of settings I try it looks awful, preview and in-game. Quite frustrated here...Ome thing I note, if I tweak settings in the driver menue the spinning logo looks smooth. But if I enter the sim and then go into the driver menue it looks edged and all the 3D settings are reduced. Seems almost as if the FS is controlling the card settings, although I've specifically selected to override 3d applications in the driver settings.

"(...) I've specifically selected to override 3d applications in the driver settings (...)"Which is exactly what you should NOT do. I repeat what I've posted before: Nvidia 158.* drivers treat the higher (> 4x) AA settings as APPLICATION CONTROLLED.Please, please, PLEASE: this new driver series requires a completely different way of thinking than the one we have become accustomed to. Specifically: subsequent to setting the desired levels in Nvidia control panel, the driver must be configured NOT to overrule the application, and anti-aliasasing MUST be enabled in FS9.Yes I know: such a change of mindset almost physically hurts. Yet it's a necessary starting point to get the 8600/8800 cards to work with the 158.* series of Nvidia cards.Jaap Verduijn.

Jaap, dont get emotional. Your advise is highly appreciated, and I have no specific mindset about graphic cards, simply cuz my knowledge here is very limited and I'm not, nor pretend to be very educated about graphics. All I want is my sim to work best. Thats why I seek knowledgable advise. Now, back to the settings. Unfortunately its not working. Here is what I tried:1. Set ''aplication controlled'' and turned AA on in FS9. 2. Turned on the AA, AF in FS and selected Application Controled in driver.3. Turned everything off in FS besides AA and turned max (16x) in driver.Whats funny is that neither of these MAKE NO DIFFERENCE in FS.... What also seems apparent is that FS is controlling the 3D settings regardless. If I setup the driver for quality performance and then go to FS, and then switch the driver menue again, the settings are automatically scaled back to lower performance and the nVidia logo looks rough-edged...Sorry if I use unprofessional terms, but thats the best way I can describe it.My suspecion is that I haven't deinstalled my ATi properly and its confliciting. I ran the uninstall, but still have some ati files in the system32, which I cant delete. This is also strange, since in the manuel for 8800 it says "compatible with all on-borad video adapters".Regards,IL76MD

Hi, 8XQ AA is my choice. I have set my display resolution at 1600X1200X32, and 8XQ with 16X AF is enough for me.The preview , before these Forceware 100.XX series was a black box, now you can see the ac with all the jaggies there (no AA applied). Once the FS is loaded , the AA works, and the IQ is fantastic. That

Greetings IL76MD!Don't worry, as a positive side-effect of having a severe autistic spectrum disorder, I never get emotional. Good grief, I wouldn't even know how (grin!), inter-human emotions are an alien concept to me.As Alcott posted in several threads, there are thousands of hardware/software combinations nowadays, not to mention tweaks and "privately discovered settings". This may, in individual cases, require additional measures to get the 8800/158.* combination going. However, this does not change the basic starting point for setting up this combination, to wit an 180 degrees change in approach by Nvidia.Having some remnants of old ATI drivers may very well be the issue in your case. I know that for Nvidia a specific and highly effective "driver cleaner pro" is available. There might be something similar for ATI. In general, even when upgrading WITHIN the Nvidia range, it's a good idea to clean out ALL remnants of the previous driver. Such fossils can create havoc with the quality of FS!Be well.Jaap Verduijn.

Jaap, thanks for reply. I think it is the only possible issue (having old ATi files) cuz every other possibility I've already elliminated. I'll try to clear the old files and tweak again.Keep well,IL76MD

>Im starting to wish I stayed with the ATI team, nvidias driver>team is awful.nV has been absolutely flawless for me. I had two previous ATI cards in the Radeon line and they were very finicky, would lock up here and there. nV way less buggy in my experience. I put the same two cards in two diff machines and had these troubles. No troubles with ANY game with my 6800GT/OC.

Greetings Al!"(...) if you select the 3d settings to "application controlled" then you are unable to change what AA setting you want (...)"I really can't help you. I simply don't experience any of the issues you mentioned earlier on and now. It may make "absolutely zero sense" to you, but it sure makes a lot of sense to me: on my ten days old rig, with every piece of hardware installed ten days ago, every (latest) driver installed ten days ago, and FS9 freshly installed ten days ago, the combination of 8600GTS card and 158.19 videodrivers works PERFECTLY. I experience none of the problems you mention, nor am I unable to do anything that you are unable to do.In short: everything simply WORKS the way I want (and tell) it to work. The secret may lie in the fact that my rig due to its newness is pristine, clean and virgin. There's no remnant of any previous software/drivers left, on account of there never having been any previous drivers/software on the box.Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

I run driver cleaner pro in safe mode after uninstalling my old drivers and rebooting. I am also running a different video card. so maybe next time you rush into a topic insulting the messenger, you might want to make sure you have the correct facts first

Your character makes you unsuitable for receiving any help. As for having the "correct facts": before people can have them, you need to supply them first - as Alcott has pointed out to you several times. Jaap Verduijn.

Alex,In an earlier thread http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=25590&page=3 I posted screenshots of my CP settings (scroll down to Mesg #25658). Note that AA mode is set to 'Enhance the application setting'. These settings work perfectly for me. One issue I did notice was that it seems you need to set AA to enabled in FS9, quit, then do your CP settings. Reason for that is that on my first try at this *something* set AA to 2X on the card. No problems now, and imo the 158.19 drivers are great for FS9.jbX6800/680i/8800GTX/4GB/XP Pro SP2[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS 2004[/a]
