August 19, 200718 yr Hi all,I had my system running well with FSX but now I have a problem. Everytime, just after takeoff FSX crashes and has to restart. It simply freezes and either presents the error checking dialog in Windows Vista or it presents me with a blue screen with crash dump and a tonne of hexidecimals garbage. Now the only things that have change in the last week since my system was working well is that I have had to disconnect my whole PC and move it to another room so there could be some reconnection issues (but I doubt this because everything else is running well) and I have installed the new nVidia 162.22 drivers where as I was using the 158.24 drivers. Therefore, if any of you guys with the 162.22 drivers installed could let me know if they are successful for you then I could rule them out as being the problem. Also, any ideas what else it might beKind Regards,DaveMy System:Intel Quad QX6700 running at 3.46Ghz per coreXFX Geforce 8800 GTX 768MB4GB CorsairTwinX XMS2 PC6400 (800Mhz) MemoryWindows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit24" Dell
August 19, 200718 yr This sounds like the symptoms for the Out of Memory (OOM) errors. If you have not done so already, install the OOM fix as discussed in these forums. I had the same problem shortly after starting up FSX and the fix worked for me.JimEDIT: The fix thread is currently on Page 3...
August 19, 200718 yr I'm sorry I can't be of more help than to say that I have the 162.22 drivers installed, and I have an 8800 GTX. So far I've not had any difficulty with them.Mike. Mike Beckwith

August 19, 200718 yr No problem with those drivers for me. Might be worth running Memtest86 and also checking you bios settings. I've had some strange things happen after unplugging the machine. Vista has a more rudimentary memory test tool available from F8 I think. Regards Howard H D Isaacs

I'd try clocking your QX lower or upping the vcore if you have room, but the lower clock may be the answer.I'm right in the middle of that now. I have a Q6700 that does 3.20GHz @ 1.3125v fine. I tried for 3.40GHz and even with vCore increased to 1.3625 it results in the random crashes your seeing, even though my temps were fine. 3.33 @ 1.3625 runs without crashing but I get roundoff errors on one core under prime95 quad testing.I decided a cooler running stable 3.2GHz is fine. I have 1.58 drivers in Vista, and the 1.62 drivers in XP, my testing was done in XP.Be interested to hear your bios settings... August 19, 200718 yr I have a simular system and using and using Forceware 163.11 drivers. I doubt seriously that you are having a software problem. I have gone through litterly "####" getting my FSX to operate correctly. It was always crashing OS with Bluescreen. I did not give up and continually tried to find cause. The report that OS gives was not accurate in my case. Matter of fact, it was a case of several things that always caused crashes after FSX ran for a while. The main problem was BIOS settings regarding mem voltage, MCH settings, and OC'ing settings. I would suggest that you back down on your BIOS settings for speed or try increasing you MCH voltage (don't know what MB you are using). After gettings settings in BIOS working OK I discovered that my AntiVirus (NOD32) program also caused FSX to crash after a while. I used window's "services" and "msconfig" to stop Antivirus when I want to run FSX.I have had problems with FSX for about two months and was just about to go back to XP but wanted to stay with Vista Ultimate 64 for upcoming enhancements to FSX. I don't believe you will find any help from M$ for your probles, only from folks w/simular system and experiences.Let us know how you come along.WilbertAbit AW9D-MaxThermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel QX6700 QuadcoreVista Ultimate 644x1G Ballistix Tracer (PC2 8500)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor - Non Raid2x320GB SATA WD SE16 - Non Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65BFG 8800GTX OC2 768MB 626MHz Core Clock3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water CoolingEnermax temp/fan controlle Wilbert
August 20, 200718 yr Hi guys,Well I tried all sorts including re-installing FSX and trying out the changing of the variable within the fsx.exe to allow over 2gb memory but nothing worked. About 1 to 4 mins into a flight from FSX first rendering the screen it would crash and restart the sim. I also switched back to the older nVidia 158.24 drivers but still the problem persisted. Therefore, I today re-installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit and now the problem has gone. I thought I should test FSX with a bare bone system so I put windows on, then the 162.22 drivers then did all the windows updates (2.9GB's worth), then installed FSX and the SP1 update and played it. Absolutely no problems with default settings so I pumped them up to the 1920x1200x32 resolution with most slider to the right'ish/middle and I get a solid 25 to 30fps (capped at 30fps). Everything runs nice now. I didn't apply the change of variable in the exe as it ran fine so I could change that if I do get any memory problems. I was also having the problem a while ago where all the textures would quickly change to low res and FSX would scream low memory so I will probably have to change this variable if that problem appears again.Anyway, my motherboard is an MSI P6N with nForce 680 (see below) and the bios settings are:http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo...roductID=526998CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core QX6700CPU Frequency: 3466.7FSB Reference Clock: 1066.7CPU Multiplier: 13xVoltagesCPU Core: 1.44VCPU FSB: 1.2VMemory: 2.1VnForce SPP: 1.35VnForce MCP: 1.5VHT nForce SPP <-> MCP: 1.45VFSB Memory Clock: UnlinkedFSB Memory Ratio: AutoFSB (QDR) MHz: 1066.7Mem (DDR) Mhz: 800.0Memory Timing SettingstCL (CAS Latency): 4tRCD: 4tRP: 4tRAS: 12Commands Per Clock: 2TAdvanced Memory SettingstRRD: 3tRC: 22tWR: 5tWTR: 8tREF: 7.8uSI have absolutely no idea what these settings are or whether they are the ones you were wanting.
