October 19, 200718 yr I'm trying to fine tune my 8800 GTS 640, and i was wondering what similar owners are going with as far as setting up the Nvidia settings. Here was I got, but I think I can do better:Resolution 1280 x 1024 32 color( monitor native res)Antistropic Filtering: Application controlledAA mode: onAA setting: 4xTransparency: offTexture clamp: HardwareError reporting: offextension limit: offForce mipmaps: trilinearMulti-display: Single (single monitor use)Texture filtering: qualityTriple buffering: onVsync: OffI may be off a bit as I'm doing this from memory, and I'm at work. I have heard that not using AA in FSX is way better, but actually I think it looks worse IMO and framerate dips a little, strangely.Has anyone got down and found a really good setup for FSX? See below for my sys specs, and thanks for reading. -Scotty
October 19, 200718 yr Have you tried enabling settings within FSX....ie let the application decide? That's how I run and FPS are better and so is image quality. What I run is check AA, and set filtering to ansiotropic within FSXAlso, try the latest 163 drivers.... I'm using an older card (see specs)but these drivers have been great so far.... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 20, 200718 yr Also using the 163.71 with the 8800gts and they work fine in FSX. I let AA controlled by FSX.Aniso = 16xAA gamma = OnAA mode = Application controlledAA setting = application controlledAA transparency = multisamplingconformant texture clamp = offforce mipmaps = nonemulti-display = singletexture filtering-aniso = offtexture filtering-negative lod bias = allowtexture filtering - quality = High qualitytexture filtering - trilinear opti = offthreaded opti = autotriple buffering = offvert sync = offThese give very good results. But I'm still experimenting. The PC is a recent build. CPU is E6850Pierre Pierre I9 14900K 5.5 64gb ram 6800 RTX5090 Asus Strix Gaming E
October 20, 200718 yr Author Ryan,Yeah, that is my experience as well. Having the application handle the AA seems to work much better for me, not sure why.Pierre,Your settings worked a treat! Wonderful. The only thing I did different is I use vertical sync on for certain racing games that have issues without. Thanks. -Scotty
October 20, 200718 yr Consider overclocking the CPU and 8800.I have a eVga 8800GTS 640, and its stock speed was 513 gpu / 792 mem.Yesterday, I tried o/c it to 620 / 900 and gained at least 10% increase in fps witch in FSX can make a big difference. I just used the nVidia nTune app. Processor: Intel Core i7 [email protected] Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX670 OC RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1866 [9-9-9-24-2T] Motherboard: Asus P8Z68 Pro / Gen 3 Best Ever FSX Tip: Adaptive Vertical Sync 1/2 Refresh Rate
October 20, 200718 yr Author I have mildly OC the processor (10%) but since these components are brand new (less than 80 hours) I thought i'd give them some time before I used a lasting OC to the 8800, CPU. Also I have 30 days limited warranty and playing by the rules, OC would go against that I believe. But I will do some OC after a bit of time. -Scotty

My Q6600 easily overclocked to 3.090 Ghz with only a slightincrease in voltage. The temperatures are well below maximumand when running FSX, down at 45-50C with Tc at 38-42C ( Max=71C )I suspect that if I wanted to up the voltage more and accept theincrease in temps, it would overclock even higher but I'm satisfiedwith it's performance in FSX as it is now.I've overclocked the 8800GTS 640MB by 32%, whatever those numberscome out to be ( I'm away from home on a laptop so can't look them up )I'm using RivaTuner and have profiles to set the stock frequency, a16% overclock and the 32% overclock. My motherboard and memory are:M-Board: GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel MotherboardMemory: CORSAIR Dominator 2GB DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel KitCPU Cooling: Rosewill RCX-Z775-EX 92mm 2 Ball PWM CPU Cooler Paul
October 21, 200718 yr Pierre,I just tried you settings and seemed to be quite nice! Not experienced enough with FSX to tell if it really makes a difference though. Thanks a lot anyway!Matti
