Who is using an 8800GTX?

Featured Replies

I am interested in the eVGA model. Reviews are really good for this unit and I was thinking of getting one. Could use some opinions.Thanks.

I have a 8800GTS 640 and a quad 3.2, it runs locked at 25fps just about everywhere using MS aircraft at 1920x1200, even same at 2560x1600 when I tried.Tom's VGA charts suggest the GTX and GTS are about the same for FSX.The 8800GTX is about to be replaced so I'm not sure if its the right time to spend top dollar on one, i guess eVGA has a step up program if they do release a new one within 90 days.If I had to build a new system today, I'd probably pick the Ultra instead of the GTX, but I think even the 8800GTS 340 will probably perform about the same.

Yep, I'm waiting for the release of the G92 cards next month before jumping into the market. Word is that the 8800GT will have the same performance as the 8800GTX but be more efficient, as well as supporting DX10.1. But these are only rumors from Inquirer.http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/new...92-scores-outedCheers,Noel.

An 8800GTX allows you to easily run FSX free from an any kind of GPU bottleneck. Mine easily runs FSX at 1600x1200 16xAA and 16xAF. Recently I have been using supersample AA via nHancer in order to take advatage of all the extra GPU headroom I have. 8xS supersampling seems to be the sweet spot, and look much better than the usual 16xAA.One of the best parts about the 8+ series GPUs is the improved filtering, which is about as close to perfect as you can get, and it looks amazing compared to the 7 series cards.

yeah I'm thinking I have a large GPU bottleneck heheI'm also in the wait crowd....my beautiful wife lets me know when I can and can't buy things ;)

I have the eVGA 8800GTX and recommend it. Runs great at 1920 X 1200 with all the settings turned up high. It is power hungry; you need a power supply that can support TWO PCIE connections. Of course with FSX, your frame rates are limited by CPU. I would only recommend the 8800GTX if you need 1920x1200 or higher; less than this and it is probably overkill for FSX.Regards,Rich

You might find this of interest. It is my (unscientific) comparison between the 8800GTS and an 8800 Ultra:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...=7&topic_page=2RgdsTim Morshead

I had a chance to put a 8800 Ultra in my FSX system to try. It's so long it didn't fit! , had to remove the drive bay.Quick run at 2560x1600 ... It was not faster than my 8800GTS in FSX,in fact, maybe slower as I seen blurry textures that I never seen before.Might have been a driver issue, I didn't have much time with it.The new 8800GT looks like the way to go if your building a system now, single slot, running cooler, and near GTX performance.
