November 7, 200718 yr Hi folks, Any recommendations for speakers for a PC? Obviously for FSX but also for Crysis and the occasional DVD.Do I go for 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1? Is there a sweet spot in value for money terms? I don't want to spend more than $300.Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
November 7, 200718 yr Ok, there are a couple choice....Really nice 2.1'scrap 2.1'sNice 5.1's....and you get the jiistI use the Logitech X-530's 5.1 for my PCAnd Logitech Z-680's for my DVD movies etc/TVThey are both outdated now I think, but there are nice alternatives, such as:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16836121120Basically the update to the Z-680's....great product thereAnd:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16836121126oh I guess they still have the 530's...I really like these...just make sure your speakers are fairly close to the PC...the coords don't reach too farI enjoy Logitech speakers...I'm very happy with both of mine.... oh, make sure you have a decent sound card too....I know most mobos are decent, but I recommend the Creative X-fiAnd theres always the higher-end pc speakers:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16836119008so there you have it | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 7, 200718 yr I have the Logitech Z-5500 digital that I'm very happy with. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers...es/224&cl=us,enYes, it's a bit on the expensive side but over the years I've learned that a good sound system is something you can stick with for many years. This one can pump out some serious base and impressive volumes without any distortion but of course one should couple it with a good sound card (I have the Creative X-Fi Extre gamer). To another computer I have hooked up a 10 year old Labtec 2.1 system that still sounds absolutely amazing - probably the best hardware investment I've ever done! November 7, 200718 yr Author Thanks guys. My room is small and cramped so a 5.1 or 7.1 system looks like it might be really hard work; it would be almost impossible to get the speakers placed properly. So I think I'll go for a 2.1 system, and maybe upgrade to a 5.1 headphone. For this I guess I will need to upgrade the sound card as well, as I have an old Creative Audigy LS. November 7, 200718 yr Or.....invest in a REALLY high quality headset....and a nice sound card...sometimes headphones can sound almost better than speakers with the right card!!!Try Sennheisers or Bosehttp://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/categ...?transid=cat9d1 | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 8, 200718 yr I know this is not going to be constructive and I appoligize for that. :-shyI've had 4.1 & 5.1 that came with various PCs over the years but I keep going back to my old ALTEC-Lansig 2.1 setup that came with my 1st actual PC... my old Gateway P1 system from about '94 or '95.I ordered my next PC a few days ago and I ordered it without speakers. These still sound great IMO. Personally I think a good quality 2.1 rig can't be beat... at least for my tastes. And in a small room like you describe I believe that is how I'd go. Gee... that was a silly thing to say... I am using 2.1 and this isn't all that small of a room.I hope what ever you do suits your tastes. :)(P.S. - By "actual PC" I mean that before that I used Apples & Amigas and they had their own speaker systems.)
November 8, 200718 yr Author Thanks for the links and opinions guys. I'm pretty sure I'll go with a good quality 2.0 or 2.1 speaker system and a 5.1 headset, with maybe a sound card upgrade. Here are some options within my budget. Some of the headsets are now USB with their own in-line sound card.Speakers:Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0 Speaker System, Black = $165Klipsch ProMedia GMX A-2.1 Speaker System = $199Acoustic Energy Aego Music System = $210Headphones:Zalman ZM-RS6F+M Headphones = $69Medusa 5.1 ProGamer Edition V2 = $131.30Sennheiser PC155USB = $199Zalman ZM-RS6F USB Headphones = $79Sound card:Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro = $189.00These prices are AUD$, not US$.Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
November 8, 200718 yr For a great 2.1 sound... with a lot of bass (low rumble) etc... Its got to be the Acoustic authority A-3780RBhttp://www.amazon.com/Acoustic-Authority-3...e/dp/B0000CC7A9I used to have an older model that gave way after 3 years.. which I liked very much and when it gave way, I went and got the Logitech Z-2300 for $150 But I was disappointed with the bass...the big rumble I had when a 747 or even the low rumble the FSX sea aircrafts make when you cut down the throttle. I missed them so badly that I ordered another pair of Acoustic Authority's newer model A-3780 for $86.00. I love it. But now I am using both my pair like a 4 speaker system. Since I have a sound card as well as the sound from my MB. If you search, you can get the Acoustic authority A-3780RB even cheaper. An Amazing sound. And if you find this for $60 (I have seen it somewhere at that price) get it as an additional pair of speakers and make a 4.1 out of it.MannyPS: For flight simming (no necessarily for music, get the one with the biggest and most powerful bass. A 2.1 with a great bass is much better than a 5.1 with low bass for flight simming IMO. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 8, 200718 yr Noel- years ago I made up a sub/sub woofer in a plywood enclosure, bolted to the steel frame underside of the arms of my (office style) chair. Two RF choke coils in series keep the freq below 60 hz & it's powered by an ancient Technics stereo amplifier. The vibes come at you thru' your elbows (and backside). Suggest to your wife that she go shopping, then crank up the volume, open the throttles and whoee!!Alex Reid CYYJ
November 8, 200718 yr Author Alex, that sounds like you built your own Buttkicker! Thanks Manny, seems to me everyone agrees bass is good for FSX...Cheers,noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
