January 8, 200818 yr *raises hand*With clock speeds up to 3.16GHz and 6MB L2 cache, the new E8xxx series will surely help boost performance and frame rate issues. I am definitely getting a E8400, which supposedly will sport a price tag of less than $200. If there is a upgrade for my aging(?) AMD X2 4800+ then this is probably it. I have high hopes for FSX with those new CPUs and maybe I'll be finally able to run complex airliners and glass cockpit add-ons with FSX.Pat
January 8, 200818 yr Some info on the .45's if anyone is interested, http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html...W50aHVzaWFzdA==.45, sounds cool doesn't it. Like my stainless steel Springfield Armory 1911-A1. :-bang
January 8, 200818 yr I won't be first in line (I am never first in line for any computer hardware...), but I will get one fairly soon.As you probably know, the E8xxx you are getting is a dual. I am going to get a quad. This system I build will be primarily for FSX, although it will have an eye towards FS11. My 3700+ was primarily for FS9, too, but look how well it has lasted.Nice that you link to {H}. January 8, 200818 yr Author The Peryn quad-cores will absolutely be the best that will available for FSX at an affordable price (expect for the Quad Extremes), but who knows when they're going to be available (latest was Q1 2007). Last I heard and read in here is that the quad will definitely show some improvements over the dual-cores and I think that the comparable quad (Q9450?) for $266 would be a good alternative in the future. We'll see, if dual-cores with higher clock speeds or four-cores at lower clock speeds prevail. For a sub-$200 price tag the dual-core will perform just fine and still a very good (top five) performer. I think I read an article recently that had FSX benchmarked on the E8400 (default settings, 4GB, 8800 GT, not overclocked) with 60 fps, which is certainly not shabby at all. If I can get 20fps out of it with a complex add-on, high (not ultra) settings and some 50% traffic, I will be jumping for joy.Pat
January 8, 200818 yr > We'll see, if>dual-cores with higher clock speeds or four-cores at lower>clock speeds prevail.I think the dual-cores given their higher clocks will give more raw fps, but the quads will give faster texture loading. That's a guess based on the fact that the texture loader is threaded whereas the actual frame rate of the sim depends more on the clock rate. That's pretty much the situation we see right now with the conroes too I suppose. Now for FS11, that's a different matter. I would bet the farm that FS11 will make even better use of many cores. January 9, 200818 yr I hope....heheI like my AMD6000, but I wish I would have waited a while longer, of course it only cost me 170 bucks.... but I would gladly pay 300 for a new quad core.....hehIf only my wife will let me upgrade in another year hahah | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 9, 200818 yr I'll get an E8500 soon. My current CPU is quite fast though I figure I'll get about 30% gain @ 4.2GHz given the bigger cache.
