I just experienced an unintentional but very interesting demonstration of the CPU

I have a eVGA8800GTS 640MB card and a Q6600 G0 stepping CPU.I've overclocked the CPU to 3.2GHZ and in the past had overclocked the8800 by 32%. I saw the same "no difference" effect that you observed, running FSX SP2 on WinXP. Overclocking the 8800 video card did not improve performance at all.In fact I believe I experienced some instability from time to timewhen running the 8800 overclocked so now I don't bother to run theRivaTuner overclocking profile at all. You have found what a lot of us have found. I did some testing, overclocked my 7800GT, and it made no difference at all with FSX performance on my machine.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

I got quite a boost by upgrading from a 8800GTS 320Mb factory overclocked, to the EVGA Ultra 8800 superoverclocked. I made this post at the time:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchUntil I reminded myself about that post, I had forgotten how (relatively) slow the 8800GTS was. In fact, relying just on my memory, I recently told someone else on a forum that the increase was only 1-5FPS in dense areas. Looking back on it, the increase was rather better than that.Of course, maybe there was something odd about my setup which produced this difference.Tim
