Image Quality in FS9 latest Geforce 8800 Ultra !

Featured Replies

I have just changed my video card from the super Nvidia 7950 using the excellent NVidia drivers 56.72 best ever for Flight sim 2004 With little in the way of blurries!Well I couldnt wait to load up my PMDG B744 and fly en route from EGLL to KLAS (Simflyers), but I couldnt believe just how bad the blurries were ! At KLAS using the 56.72 drivers I never had any blurries, but when I load up with my NVia 8800 Ultra Geforce V/C using the 169.21 drivers the blurries are back with avengeance and no matter what I do or which driver I use the blurries are there !!(I have tried the 169.16, 169.21, 169.32 and the 171 drivers from Guru 3D)I would love to re-install my 56.72 drivers which i have used since 2004 to enjoy the quality of the views and reasonable FPS. My resolution on my Samsung 22" is 1600 x 1080.The question is threefold;1) Is there any way of getting rid of the dreaded blurries?2) If there isnt is there any way I can use the old drivers, I have tried but when I try the 56.72 drivers FS will now only run in 2D and doesnt recognise the old 56.72 drivers!3) Is it possible if not to run ahybrid version of the 56.32 drivers by copying the files across to the later drivers.Any help would be much appreciated.Best Regards,ChrisEGBB UK

Welcome to the club...I also have blurries since I have a 8800GTS/320 and have done everything and all the tweaks but without any result. As I mentiod earlier, It seems that modern hardware will not run very well under the old fashion FS9 (???)I hope we can find a solution for it.By the way, It is not only Nvidia, I tried a new ATI HD2600XT to see if it was in the 8800 but the ATI has the same problem.I don't now what is causing this...Happy landings..... (without blurries)

You guys are KIDDING, are you!!!Now if it's no matter if nvidia or ati, it must be- their general generations' technology (unified shader or the like)- something other in the PCConfirm you got blurries as you changed to the NV8800 with no other changes at all (other hardware, other software drivers). State all your system's details. There should be something common then. One theory is the Multicores demanding lots of data from Harddisk in parallel that the HD can't satisfy. But why does this start with new hardware? Or new video driver? Anybody with Geforce 7950 and newer drivers, are there also issues?BigeanAnd I'm courious if that is a common problem even with FS2004.

Thanks Guys for the emails.I can certainly confirm that with the old Nvidia Geforce 7950 and AMD FX 57 I never really had a problem with Blurries. In fact people were so amazed with the realism I got with my CRT when I flew out of KLAS they couldnt believe it. When I told eveyone to change their drivers to the 56.72 drivers everyone reported that this overcame most if not all blurries. However that changed when I changed my PC to an Intel 6950 Quad Core with a Geforce 8800 Ultra no matter what drivers I use and I have tried 7 too date the blurries are back and the graphics even at 1600 x 1050 look quite bad.Any idea mwould be most appreciated!Best Regards,Chris

I think the first thing to do is clarify the "blurries". Screenshots would be useful.

Thanks Greg, Unfortunately the blurries dont shpw up on the Screen shotsBest Regards,ChrisEGBB

Actually, they do if they're real blurries (i.e. tiles that load slowly or even fail to load while flying above/near them). Is this what you're seeing? My point is that over time the definition of "blurries" has... blurred :-) .

Thanks Greg, the Blurries in my case are probably more like shimmering, where certain textures (although not all) keep on flashing. Best Regards,Chris

K, I understand that Chris. Can I ask what your AF settings are (video card and in game)? Also, Alpha textures (things like tress, buildings, bridges) will always shimmer in MSFS. Are these the items you're seeing shimmering?Cheers,

>Thanks Greg, the Blurries in my case are probably more like>shimmering, where certain textures (although not all) keep on>flashing. >>Best Regards,>ChrisThe shimmering is a product of the drivers.

Thanks Greg, but its strange I never had this problem with my old Geforce 7950. With my new system KLAS which never had blurries, has them in most of the terminal buildings, runway centre lines and most of the buildings. In doesnt matter what any of the settings are it doesnt seem to make any difference. Whereas with my old 7950 all the settings were maxed out and the sytem looked superb !!I am seriosuly thinking of swapping back to the old card.Best Regards and Many thanks,Chris

Thanks for this, thats what I thought but I was hoping I could load up my old 56.72 but FS will only run in 2D modeLets hope Nvidia improve on the drivers soon Best Regards,Chris

The shimmering is a product of the drivers. So much for those "performance" optimizations.Evenso, being an ATI guy I know it's possible to pretty much negate the performance optimizations in current drivers in favor of quality. I find it hard to believe the same couldn't be done with nVidia drivers.Good luck,

Can you verify this?If you don't get shimmering on your ATI hardware, this is yet another bonus point in favor of ATI. That ATI HD3870 vid card is looking better all the time as I do my research...RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Sorry Rhett, I fly FS9 only (returned my copy of FSX soon after release). Hopefully, someone flying current ATI and FSX will be along soon.Regards,
