February 26, 200818 yr I am thinking of upgrading my computer - will the system below be ok to run FSX on - and I want to be able to sit at LAX in a jet with autogen cranked up and ground textures full right and get about 18-20fps would this do it? and is the price good?CPU: (Sckt775)Intel Ciao!
February 26, 200818 yr My old 3.7GHz E6850 couldnt run FSX well on medium high i had to take a few settings down i put traffic on 0% and it ran quite smoothly on medium high. I had exactly that graphics card aswell.
February 27, 200818 yr Nope...But, you could overclock it.....that would help.....You'd have to buy a CPU cooler though:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835154001http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835186134http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835109125 | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
February 27, 200818 yr Moderator For a few bucks less you may want to buy one of the new E8400's. It's the newest processor, although you may need a different board. I just picked up a E8400 at Microcenter here in Dallas yesterday for $199.00 plus tax. It's also 3.0 ghz but 45nm and supposedly OC's better. They wanted $269.00 for the older E6850. I am also putting a new system together. So far I bought the E8400, EVGA 8800 GTS, and the Antec 900 case. Still waiting for the ASUS Maximus MoBo and the two Raptors to arrive. I spent $630 so far, but should be done for around $1300 or so. I can't wait to try FS9 and FSX after running both on a 5 year old P4 2.53 with an ATI 9700 128 mb video card. FS9 runs well now, I cant wait to see after the build. It should be like a hot knife through butter, lol. Good luck. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
February 27, 200818 yr contrary to what the naysayers say (and it's a predictable lot, always the same group of guys saying it won't work no matter the specs listed...) it WILL work and work well.Caveat: I don't know that motherboard, it may be a slow one that throttles your system and slows it down.My machine has specs a lot lower than those and works very well indeed with FSX with everything set at medium/high.I'm running an E4500, GF7600GT, same soundcard you list, 2 of the harddisks you list, same amount of PC4200 RAM (so slower), and a P5L1394 motherboard (which is a fast one).Guess what? I got it locked at 20fps and have never seen it struggle to reach that, so I can probably increase some detail settings further without loosing performance. So research that motherboard, and if it's a decently performing one go for it. If not, try to get a better one like the P5L1394 (which I chose because it has 4 RAM slots, Firewire, well thought out design, and performance).
