March 6, 200818 yr I've been toying with the idea of an upgrade for awhile. First here is what I have:AMD64 4000+, 1GB ram, 7800GT, IDE drivesAnd here is what I plan:E8400, 2GB ram, same vcard, SATA drivesThis is all for FS9 for now. My current system gives me pretty smooth experience above 20 fps at all time with only occasional stutters when loading AI or clouds. My first question is, will I see about double or better performance with the upgrade? Secondly, since 8400 is not available, I'm considering the 6750. For FS9 will that make a noticeable different in favor of the 8400?Thanks in advance!Jason JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
March 7, 200818 yr My opinion is E8400 will outperform the E6750 considering there is more cache (6 MB vs. 4 MB), and 45nm vs. 65nm meaning more overclockability, and a higher clock speed (3.0 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz) But if the E8400 is not available, then the E6750 won't be that much worse than an E8400.Regards, Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD
March 7, 200818 yr Moderator Jason,For what it's worth the E8400 is available. I just bought one two or three weeks ago from Microcenter in Dallas for $199.00. They had the 6850 that is also 3.0 GHz, but it was older technology and it was $269.00. I figured why buy the older technology, when I can get newer and better for $70.00 less. And, like the other poster said, the E8400 is probably going to be better for OC'ing. I'm not sure, but you will probably need a different MoBo as well. The E8400's are available, but when I got mine it was the last one in stock and they had gotten 8 of them that morning. They are going quickly and I think most retailers will probably be raising the price since they are in big demand. I thing newegg may have them, but not sure now that I have mine, I hadn't been checking. Good luck.Sean Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 7, 200818 yr Maybe not double, but certainly somewhere between 1.5x and 2x the the performance of your current system. If talking FS9 only, then an E6750 will be more than adequate.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
March 7, 200818 yr Author Thank you guys for the replies. For all I know E8400 is unavailable for a fair price. I figure if there is no noticable difference between 6750 and 8400 in FS9 I'd rather get it now and for a few bucks less as well. When I'm ready to go X I'll probably be able to get something like a E8500 for what a 6750 costs now.BTW I'll o'c the 6750 to 3Ghz, which from what I heard can be done easily.Jason JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
