May 1, 200818 yr Do you have SP1 and SP2 for FSX installed? Also Vista SP1? Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD

I have a very similar machine and I get excellent FPS, just about everywhere in FSX with moderately high slider settings. I haven't overclocked yet either, so I'm getting good results at 3.0 gHz - I'm really confused as to why your rig isn't performing all that well. If you reinstall FSX, one tip I read was to actually fire up the sim after the intial install, prior to installing SP1 and SP2. Also, be sure to install at least SP1 - this is required in order for FSX to utilize both cores. SP2 is even better - both are free downloads. The last suggestion I have is to check your slider settings. Don't expect to run FSX at maximum slider settings. Even though the E8400 is a powerful processor, it still doesn't have the jam to run FSX at its maximum settings (virtually no current processors do, unless they're highly overclocked.)I hope this helpscheers
May 1, 200818 yr Author Hi Glenn,Thank you for your reply, I reinstalled FSX 6 Times, and the first thing I do after reinstall, I register it on line and let it go. The first thing I notice when you open it, before using a free flight where you listen to the sound and to choose the plane ect.... I get a very loud scratchy sound, so the sound is not clear. As for the slider, I just try to run with default, as well with lower adjustment, and don't have a go for it, I don't know if it is a a software issue or a set up issue. And I also installed Sp1 and tried, then added Sp2 and tried it, and no go. I am really discouraged after paying big $$ for this system.
May 2, 200818 yr What motherboard drivers are you using on the P5K-e? You have some driver problems would be my bet? Have you looked at the bios? Which one is it?Also do not use the automatic overclock settings on the Motherboard. Let it run default and see how it goes. At default you should get at least 20 FPS except in the largest airports. Are you using any additional traffic files? Turn off bloom.Asus P5K-e with Q6600 and 4mg memory.
May 2, 200818 yr If this is a P5Ke mobo, mine does this too. Go into device manager and uninstall the sound device. Yes, uninstall. Now reboot. Vista will reinstall the your sound device automatically. You'll be good go. On your next boot, listen carefully for Window's "hello" sound. If it is distorted, ya gotta do this drill again or FS will never run right. Once you are more setup, you can uninstall, go into Vista's sleep, them back out. It'll do the same thing, but a bit quicker. If you ever figure out what's wrong, I'd sure be interested. It's a real PITA.
May 2, 200818 yr Moderator Walouigi, I am surprised you FPS are so bad. I am running a similar setup:E8400 @ 3.02 GH PC2 8500 @ 1066mhz500 GB WD HD W/16mb cacheAsus Maximus Formula MoboEGVA 8800 GTS 512I am using XP SP2, but I am running mine with full weather settings, full scenery complexity, 100 % AI (WOAI+PAI packages), basically full settings on everything and am locked at 28 FPS with no stutters or blurries. By default I would imagine you should get frames in the 20's. I had my setup done by FS-GS, took about 4 hours and cost me $85 USD. Worst case scenario you may want to contact them and let them get you set up and save yourself days or even months of frustration. Plus, you will be able to run your FSX at it max without wondering if you can get even more out of it. For me, after spending $1800 on a new system, it was well worth the cost. The lead techs name in Michael and you can contact him here with questions, [email protected]. Good luck getting setting up.Regards,Sean Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 2, 200818 yr Author Hi all,Just wanted to let you know that after I brought the system back to the shop yesterday, and he updated to the newest BIOS released on the 29APR08, he said to me today the system is running good.I have to go get it and test it myself, but it looks good, since I told him to start FSX just to see if the problem persist. And yesterday we did the windows Vista test to see how is my machine rate for vista, and it came to 5.9 which is very good., as all above 3 suppose to be very good and stable. So it was a BIOS problem compare to a drivers, however, I will try the sound uninstall, if it remain happening, as well I have downloaded the newest version of the MB driver .I will keep you updated guys. Thanks a millionWalouigi
