Good point joshieca. FS2002 architecture simply couldn't handle the features they have set out. Microsoft would certainly NOT want to let their trump card fly away from them, and that is.....Framerates! This is what made FS2002 a massive success. This is what we craved and what we got. An advanced version of FS2002 would deffinately be a good thing, however, where Microsoft have gone wrong (in my opinion) is with the choice of historical aircraft. How many people fly the Sopwith Camel in fs2k2 on a regular basis. It's finally seen its demise in this version. It seems we have a whole new bunch of this genre of aircraft. Don't think it would be as appealing as a NEW batch of MODERN aircraft. Maybe if they had chosen the Boeing 707 or the Comet to even it out a little, that would have been much better move. But whether it woulkd have got you there without dissintergrating from metal fatigue is a different story. Oh...the R22 being the only new aircraft...not a bad idea, but someone on the development team is a helicopter fanantic! Mind you, let's face it even if it was rubbish we'd all still buy it!Rojan

Speaking of ground scenery I was hoping that MS would have done something with Photo-real or sat imagery. To be honest the FS9 screenshots with ground scenery visable look like FS2002.

Pop-up IFR is requesting an IFR clearance in flight.Say you started your flight in VFR, but when you got to you destination, it was IFR, you could request a pop-up IFR from your current location to the airport. You would then fly IFR for the remainder of you flight.

Another thing to remember is that this new version of Flight Simulator is VERY early in development. I'm sure most of the little "quirks" and "bugs" that we're seeing in these first screenshtos will be corrected long before release. Adding such things as taxiway signs? What does this really mean? FS2002 was suppose to have gates added to airports, and they did, but how many airports had the gates added? 12? You really have to wonder what it really means when they make a statement like more AI traffic, taxiway signs etc..

Couple things:It looks really promising, that's for sure!Dynamic weather, 3d clouds - great.New GPS's - again, great.Couple questions I'd have for em tho:1. This Jepessen navdata - will it be updatable with the real world cycle? Please tell me yes...2. Are there DP/STARs included in that navdata? (it didn't mention em)

I don't think we know yet. The MS information says "summer". (Or "winter" depending on where you live :-).) I would hope the "summer" in the USA is sooner than November. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.Doug

No one seems concerned about the $54.95 for what appears to be a patch rather than a new version. I have a feeling we'll here more about this as the release date comes closer...Or, perhaps, there are going to be some new features that are going to add that much value. Sounds like an interesting summer to me.Ed Green, KCLThttp://www.panelshop.com/images/ELAL-350.jpg

No, I think we'll be pummelled with the `Centennial of Flight` message until we're bored and forget all about asking why we have to pay full price for a `patched` FS2002 when CFS3, the living, breathing embodiment of awful software, awful gameplay and crass design gets a patch for nothing. But the fact is, just how many hours will we all spend flying the Vimy, or the SOSL? Like the Sopwith Camel, it'll be something to hold our attention for about ten minutes. No, we'll all be raving about the new weather (presumably dynamic and changeable with time if I read this `theme` thing correctly) the improved ATC and the wonderful new detailed airports - all of which we've already got thanks to the aftermarket for FS2002.ChasW
