well, given the distance and altitude restrictions on flights we won't be flying in the Andes anyway I guess, and the only routes over the oceans allowed are the northerly ones.

so if that's the case what are we doing here? or is it possible to use a concorde for the jump?...after all, i've seen her used before...so i thought it'd be something like rio - cape town ....

we don't know yet what will be possible. The rules were suddenly changed yesterday to prohibit any flight from ever going over 8500ft, we were heading down here to get some more high mountain practice but that seems to now be not needed. The race comittee is imposing ever more restrictions as the race gets closer, and have effectively cut off (apart from possible things like Concorde) any option of crossing the oceans apart from the far north.

i see...i haven't taken notice of that...okay, so that means we will have to take our way over the caribean to the north and then to europe...unless other decisions are taken...maybe establishment of a new starting point?

starting point is different each year, so are the exact details. But yes, it looks like there's only one way across the Atlantic under the current rules and NO way across the Pacific without using the wildcard option (I hope the race organisers realise that).

Actually, there is no express restriction for flight above 8500'. Per MM's post in this forum: Teams should be prepared to fly some or many legs at less than 8500 ft Pressure Altitude. So we still do not know at this time whether the altitude restriction is for all flights or just some.Greg
