February 4, 200719 yr You missed the point of that leg which was to get to LIPB without going over 8500' by trying to find a route out of the mountains. I gave up on that leg because I dont know how to even plan such a flight without sectionals of the area.
February 5, 200719 yr Hi Speed,No, I did not miss the point. I think we are not practicing with the altitude restrictions. But correct me if I am wrong.Nevertheless, when you want to stay below 8,500 feet, here is the route:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166272.gifI don't have any sectionals either, only using the TAWS gauge and FSNavigator. February 5, 200719 yr Ahh, fly the river....I should of though of that, mind you it was night when I tried and I could barely make out the mountains let alone a river. I noticed that the legs before were under 8500' so I assumed we were flying last year's course under the same rules and pointed it out because I had attempted and abandoned that leg for that reason. So my post was probably more about defending my failure than trying to point anything out to a fellow veteran. ;)
February 5, 200719 yr Hi Speed,I fortunately live in the same time zone as Samedan and Bolzano, so I could fly it at daylight. Made it so much easier. There is only one tricky part in that route, where you have to cross the mountains to get to that other river valley (between fix01 and fix02). It is narrow, but you can stay at 8,400 feet altitude. I did not take your post as criticism. We are all practicing for the big event!Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
February 5, 200719 yr Likewise, I did my legs in there staying under 8500 (or as close as I could...)I just turned on the TER mode on the built in GPS and looked for paths through the mountains where the elevations were lower. Forced you to fly some round-about routes, but it IS do-able without the TAWS gauge. One question. During one of my hops through the mountains, the Duenna started flashing a PA alert in YELLOW. I was only over 8500' by maybe 40 ft for several seconds. Would that disqualify my leg or do you have to stay over 8500ft for a certain period of time before it's invalidated? --Mike
February 5, 200719 yr Mike,The first yellow flashing is a warning. Two comulative readings above 8500' PA trigger an exception and the flight is invalid (when flying under altitude restrictions). You can read it here:http://johannesmueller.com/fsforum/viewtop...b742d96f8d65c24Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
February 6, 200719 yr In the P-51D, taking it to Frankfurt!Using a pre-edition Duenna that is FSX compatible (though no altitude check, and I see we're still in the mountains, so I'll try to keep below 8500' anyway :)), found it here: http://johannesmueller.com/fsforum/viewtopic.php?t=257Hopefully he doesn't mind that I use it?Klas Klas Member of AVSIM's Around the World Race Team
