Exhaust Effects

Featured Replies

What exhaust effects do some of you use to get the blurry effect coming from the exhaust of the engine? Thanks,Ed

Ed, they cheat. They edit their shots with a graphics program. Personally, I think editing FS shots is a bit daft.... I have never done it because I love to submit the best that FS can produce, rather than compromising ... but, horses for courses, I guess.Others will comment, tee hee ;-) Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Thanks Mark,I thought there was some effect file that did that? But you might be right about the photo editing?Ed

yeah, people edit with photoshop and such...anyway, I know there was a guy that actually made an effect that did that....but never released it. I guess it was a super huge file that caused FS to run at like 2fps...

Hello Ed, there is a pretty cool file that creates different levels of heat blur from the engines ....but I have done a search and I cannot find it! :( ...I'll zip mine up for you and see what you think. :)

The FS engine is incapable of displaying "true" heat-blur. True heat blur being the correct distortion of the image behind the path of the heat blur. To do so requires the use of pixel shaders, which FS9 cannot do at the moment. The effects files that have been released on avsim are usually just very faint smoke-type effects that when in use are supposed to look something like heat blur, but in the end I hever thought they were any good. Not because the addon was poorly made but due to the limitations of the FS9 graphics engine. The good-looking heat blur you see in some screenshots are all done by editing the image in a photo-program.Ruahrc

I'm with you Ruahrc....I do not like the effect enough to use it. I would rather use the smoke effect part of the a/c cfg for something else....and I do enjoy adding the effect to my screenshots! :-hah
