Speaking of DX10.......

Featured Replies

Just stumbled onto this info on another title (Crysis) that will be one of the first to use the new DX10 and the shots look freaking amazing. Granted it's not FS and a different engine, but still impressive nonetheless. I wonder if these shots were done with DX10http://pc.ign.com/objects/694/694190.htmlRegards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

Can you just imagine what that technology and manpower could do to the world of simulation vs. just being utterly wasted on another FPS insanity-feast.... yes, count me in on the online game of this where I get fragged 11 times in the first 72 seconds by a 12 year old called 'BuTtLiCK' from DeMoines.and that's in cooperative mode!

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

Well, as someone who LIKES the occasional FPS insanity feast, I have to say that Crysis (which is predominately a single player game, but will have multiplayer as an OPTION for those who choose to take advantage of it) looks phenomenal. Considering FPSs break ground on graphics technology that won't be seen in simulations for years to come, they're great. The elitism here is one of the things that keeps my participation limited to silent reading and the occasional crack on just how ridiculous it sounds. Not that it matters to anyone, I'm sure. Not that I care, even.

Take it easy the guy was just joking! Those pics definitely highlight what DX10 can do, and no doubt as the API matures we'll see better still!James

I'll bet those shots are DX9 Shader 3. We still haven't seen a DX10 card. Could be emulation but I doubt it.Doug

Exactly!! Crysis looks like a very serious title...hands down. Imagine all of that technology applied to FS where applicable; lights, soft shadows, AI, physics....i am just getting 'high' thinking of it. Wish i could help in some way towards future development of FS, but alas, my skills are not up to that level, yet! ;)

FarCry is my favorite FPS by a long shot. The game excels at giving you the sense you have much greater freedom of movement and multiple approaches to solving problems. Halflife 2 was really bad at this--it felt more like you were on a ride at Disneyworld forced to stay on a certain track till you get thru the level. Crysis looks just plain amazing. I will be first in line. When I saw FC I was wondering why MS didn't employ something like their Crytech engine for FS.Noel

Well when Far Cry was released it was the most resource intensive title out, which is why it was used for benchmarking, can't imagine FS using that tech for it's realtime environment, probably get 2 FPS, LOL. I did reinstall FC on my latest rig and was amazed at how smooth it was, seemed to really take advantage of newer hardware tech.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/tfbeta.jpg

I'm greatly looking forward to Crysis - it should be out about the same time as FSX.It looks to be a fantastic game in many respects but I have a specific interest. I always thought it would be great to be able to build my own flight simulator. Far Cry is brilliant but it doesn't really have any realistic flyable aircraft, while Crysis does (helicopters and futuristic VTOL fighters operated from an aircaft carrier). Crysis has the essential elements for a flight simulator: volumetric clouds (that cast shadows!), default flyable aircraft and the scenery dynamically loads as you move (or fly). The last feature should make very large maps possible (in principle, hopefully, the whole world!) There is one other essential element: the editor. Far Cry ships with a scenery editor that is absolutely incredible. You can paint ground textures, manually sculpt the terrain, add static and animated objects including AI humans, fish and birds (the fish and birds implement a sophisticated flocking algorithm). And it gets better. When you finish editing, just hit CTRL-G and you're instantly in the game, allowing you to test your changes to the world. Hit ESCAPE to continue editing. This editor is far, far ahead of anything in the FS world. For example, if you make any scenery changes in FS you have to re-load the game. With the Far Cry editor it's instantaneous. Almost certainly Crysis will ship with a new version of the editor. If so, then build-your-own flight simulators should be quite possible, as all the basic necessities such as the physics engine, scenery and graphics are provided. In some limited respects (e.g. volumetric clouds) your own flight sim will be superior to FSX! It could also be either a civilian flight sim or a combat flight sim. Far Cry has been out several years and is now very cheap. If you're interested in scenery design then the editor is worth the money alone. The excellent game is a bonus! And it should give a good preview of scenery design in Crysis. Best regards, ChrisP.S. I've produced a Far Cry version of my AutoAsm program which I hope to release in a few weeks. With its ability to import real-world scenery it should come into its own with Crysis, as Crysis supports large scenery areas (Far Cry is limited to areas a few kilometers across).
