Capt Sim vs. Cloud 9 F-104

Is it close? I just purchased the Capt Sim version, and, without a doubt, this airplane is the toughest one I have ever flown, in terms of hand-eye coordination. You have to keep your eye and everything and come in low and precisely at 180-185 knots, with full flaps, and hope for no wind gusts, or you are going to wreck it, if you don't go around. It has practically zero toleration for being off the numbers on approach. I purchased, it at the Capt Sim website for $9.99. Super deal, and I highly recommend it for you hand-eye coordination and for general instrument practice, because of the speed in which it flies.Price not a consideration, how does it compare to the Cloud9 version?RH

Cloud9 version far outclasses the CS one.Flight dynamics in the C9 version are much better...CS has the afterburner cut-in based on the wrong RPM variable, so the plane will rocket right to supersonic flight without the burners...the list goes on.There's also actual product support available at Cloud9's forum, not a day-late and dollar-short generic form letter from Russia.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

Interesting! I just purchased the C9 F-4, and I must say that it is far easier to fly (or land rather) than the CS F-104. I know that the F-104 probably is harder to fly in real life, but not 10 times. In 10 attempts to land the CS f-104, I made one successful landing. The rest were crashes. The F-4 lands as easy as a heavy airliner, or easier, in my book, than trying to hands-on land the Level-D 767. I even brought the C9 F-4 down hard, and it landed fine. I am about 5 for 5 successful landings in the F-4. It kind of seems too easy.RH

That is the nature of the beast. The 104 has to be flown right by the numbers--there is no margin for error. The 104 has virtually no wings while the F-4 is a monster, more a bomber than a fighter. Any fighter pilot could get into a Phantom and probably land it first time around, but no fighter pilot could land a 104 first time around without a lot of instruction. Bill

I do not have the Cloud9 version, but must say that I like the CS one. Hard to land, but what a fun!

I might just get the C9 F-104 as well. It is on sale for about $15. They have a try before you fly option as well. I might give it a spin.RH

I love my CS F-104. Lots of fun and always a sense of satisfaction after a good landing.A real challenge is to use the free FS recorder program and fly tandem with another F-104 from takeoff to landing. That's a riot. And tough!

I tried doing that yesterday, but the VC did not load all the way. In 2D it felt rather much like the CS version. I downloading it again soon.RH

With the C9 F-104 demo, the only textures you get (exterior and vc) are with the RCAF Bare Metal 'Cold Lake' paint scheme with the CF-104 tips versions.Frog
