Pro Rudder Pedals And Auto-brakes...

Featured Replies

I may have spoken too soon. On landing I had autobrake medium set, but autobrake did not engage. Manual braking also failed. This is with FS assigned brake axes.

BTW, this statement does not make sense.
What I meant was, I arm the autobrake for takeoff during the cockpit preparation. When I the select the parking brake after loading has completed, the autobrake disarms. That's new behavior after the patch. But as this was with FSUIPC calibrated brakes, it's irrelevant anyway.Tom

Tom,Did spoiler delploy? Did you hear a "spoilers deployed" F/O callout? There are other parameters contributing to ABS working or not working during landing, so this might not be a problem with rudder brakes. ABS is triggered by spoilers deployment, so the conditions for spoilers to deploy must be satisfied (spoilers armed, landing flaps, etc.)For the rudder brakes it is easier to test with an RTO situation. However the fact that manual braking also failed is strange. If this happens again check the FSX failures menu and see if there is any failure checked for left/right brakes.

Michael,In the FS9 version it is possible to have it working with FSUIPC calibration as well. Just pressing set is not enough. You have to properly calibrate. Press a bit the brake (up to what you want to have as a "null" zone) then press the left SET button. Then press the brake to full and press the right SET button. Then it should work. And make sure the "filter" and "reverse" boxes in the FSUIP calibration screen are unchecked. If you want further assistance on that, let me know.
That was exactly what I did and so it was configured. OK, except of revers in fs config.Every time I press SET and calibrate brake in FSUIPC (without changing any of the FS control settings), parking brake cannot be set. When axis is "not processed" it

Thanks and best regards from EDDF.

Michael,I'm not sure if the spoilers deployed (I'm not using the F/O). I did have the green box though, so I think everything was setup correctly for the landing.Anyway, I just did a quick test flight, and I was able to arm RTO, taxi, brake, taxi again, do a successful RTO, taxi a bit, brake, reset spoiler and autobrake etc, do a quick circuit and land with autobrake and spoiler deployment followed by manual braking. So whatever happened on the last flight was probably a fluke. Thanks for your help,Tom

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding here, but will my setup work? I have joysticks outright disabled in the FSX menu, and I do all calibration via FSUIPC. The patch notes and this thread make it sound like my autobrakes will not work with this setup? I'm out of state right now so I can't test it yet.-stefan

Stefan:This applies only to the FSX version and only for the left/right brake axis of the rudders. Having this assigned through the FS controls only will work.Using the "calibrate axis" FSUIPC option, either with the axis assigned in FSUIPC or assigned in FS will give you problemsHaving it assigned through the FSUIPC "joystic assignment" might work if set correctly and the "calibrate axis" FSUIPC option is not usedOther controls (joystick for ailerons and elevators, etc) should be OK with FSUIPC assignments/calibrations.

Just a reminder about FSUIPC axis assignments and calibrations. You can check the box labeled something like Apply To Single Aircraft and it will only set them for the currently loaded aircraft. This will for example allow you to use those functions for the 747X but allow not assigning them to the MD-11X.

That is one very good reason to use FSUIPC for axis handling instead of FS. But the FSX version of the MD-11 requires that the brake axes are assigned in FS and that will apply to all aircraft. So unless you de-assign and reassign in FS every time you switch between aircraft, you are stuck with FS handling the brakes. Or am I missing something?Tom

In FSX, Autobrakes only works for the MD-11 if the axis is "not processed" in FSUIPC.But For the 744X, I had to do this axis calibration to have the autobrakes to work.My question is : Will PMDG standardize autobrake behaviour on both planes.Because for the moment I have to modify my FSUIPC settings every time I switch plane.very annoyingRegardsYves

Someone spoke about not "reverse" axis, it will not work because Saitek pedals ARE reversed by default. So please, just consider auto-brakes do work but it get deactivated WITHOUT ABS DISARM light sometimes but not all the time if you use brake after you arm aubo-brakes. Spoilers ARE DEPLOYED on the rejected take-off, just no auto-brakes.Regards.
