I tried X Plane

All I get is that box that say's Windows is unable to open this program. And ... Would you like Windows to check the internet for a program to open. I then search for programs, dowload and install a few, but still no luck. Am I a computer technoid? No I'm not! :( You'll most likely never see me creating any sort of computerized airplane, scenery, etc. I'd probably never keep up with the why's and wherefor's for X-Plane either, since I don't have the patience. Of course I do have an interest in technical expertise, since I did build a flyable aircraft complete with dual auto-pilots, etc. :( Any more ideas?L.Adamson
I got it ok-want me to email it?

I think I figured it out. Just pull the "dog face" into the aircraft folders where the other dog faces are.... It's something like 2+ MB.L.Adamson

Yep-that's it. Good thing as I got an error when I tried to email it.Looking forward to your report.

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Preliminary report of the RV6A mod for X-Plane....The good---Airspeed comes alive and immediately hits 60. BTW --- is this mph or knots? I rotate at around 60 kias. And yes, the flaps cause the nose to pitch down, without a ballooning effect. Yea!There is a general perception that this plane has better performance than a Cessna 172!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The not yet perfect.....When the "ball" is out of center in level flight, as in yaw......................I correct with rudder, but it causes a bank. If I have my "real life" ailerons trimmed, stepping on the pedal will just correct the yaw, but not cause a banking motion. As I pull the throttle back, the nose seems to drop too easily. Of course, in the real plane, I may be automatically compensating with back pressure on the stick. I will check this out.I'm almost positive that the rpm drops considerably when pulling the throttle (manifild pressure) to idle (the real plane), even though the rpm (blue knob) is set full forward. This model keeps the prop RPM's & sound up, but acts as though the throttle is decreased in all other regards, which is correct. Note: Generally, a constant speed governor will not try to maintain RPM's when the throttle is at a setting which produces 1800 rpm or less, even though the blue knob is full forward.____________________________________________________________________This weekend, I'll double check the above, for any automatic responces that I may be doing................without thinking about it. I'll get some more test comparisons too....................such as how quickly the aircraft begins to bank/turn, when throwing the stick to the side, and releasing.L.AdamsonP.S. ------------------- I just gotta have a "wing" view! I'm always looking out my sliding canopy over the wing! :)

Sorry Larry...I took a few liberties with you RV paint scheme. This version is not animated in any way..no flaps, no ailerons..wheels don't roll, etc, but it is nicer to look at...AND you can look outside and see the wings. A simplistic cockpit will probably follow. No new flight model changes since your commentary....I got caught up in the 3Dhttp://www.x-scenery.com/xscontent/downloads/RV6.zip

Looks very interesting. I'll follow along with this and hopefully learn something along the way.Regards PetePS Almost like the old Propilot crowd are gathering together again

That's great! I've now added the "pressure recovery" wheelpants for the mains; but still need the fiberglass fairings. And someday, I'll get them painted!L.Adamson

You just like keeping folks on their toes eh? Ok Pressure recovery pants are added though no download available yet. Next download will have the controls animated....bit later in the day I hopeTaking a break from the 3D, I went back for some "seat o the pants" flight testing and make some quick changes already. I couldn't get it slowed down to land. Prop braking effect aside, I noticed I had the drag from the flaps off a decimal so there was almost no drag while there was lift. I've made adjustments to all three (lift, drag, pitch moment) flap variables that seems to be a better starting point that the file currently available now. However...cruise and climb regimes haven't changed yet.

New download.http://www.x-scenery.com/xscontent/downloads/RV6.zipThis version has the main gear wheel covers....numerous tweaks to the flap and CG and other flight model tweaks...and a "temporary 3D cockpit". you can work the power, prop control and mixture levers in 3D.

Then I'll switch computers and get it... :( L.Adamson

I located an online POH for the RV-6A. You can find it here RV-6A POHI expect Larry can provide any details you need but I thought you might find it useful and of course any others who may be following along with what is happening here.Regards Pete

Got some real flight testing yesterday and today. The "latest" model RV6A seems to do rather well! When applying flaps, the real plane definately pitches down, and decends the same time if I let pressure off the stick. This is opposite of a high wing Cessna 172 which ballooons upward. In real life, I'm actually holding the stick against the downward forces, so the airplane just doesn't immediatly head down hill. In fact, for landing, I'll be pulling against a decending trim throughout the landing phase. The model appears to do this rather well! OK......When applying some corrective rudder to center the "ball", the model now yaws without a tendency to quickly bank. Good...........because that's what the real plane does! OK.....The models engine sound now decreases with power (mainifold pressure) reduction. With the real plane, the rpms do stay at the higher numbers, as the engine sound decreases with less throttle. I didn't keep my eye on the tach long enough to notice when the rpms decrease. I was landing, and my wife was with me. She didn't exactly like me banging on the rudder pedals as it was! :( So........now that the models engine sounds decrease with less throttle, that is like real life ...... OK! I can no longer see a tach in the V/C model, so I can't compare, and I need more real life testing anyway. In real life, I still need more right rudder than the model for the takeoff roll and initial climbout. I have a fixed rudder tab which takes care of the rudder in cruise, at least to a degree. I sometimes wish I had electric rudder trim to center the ball at varying cruise speeds. That's all for now..L.Adamson

Thanks Larry...do you have a higher resolution image of you panel? If I can make out the instruments, I can do a quick general arrangement that matches yours for the most part.

This is some great stuff!..and as Pete mentioned-reminds me of the Pro Pilots days! Thanks tkyler for doing this-it is nice to see some excitement going on.
