PMDG DC-6 Release info
Hmm no linux support = no PMDG support. Ludicrous when x-plane runs natively in Linux. Oh well, lucky for us that devs who can't be bothered with Linux are very few in number. Regards Pete

Curious...when did YOU buy into the XP franchise?
Began using xplane with version 8. In fact the box is still under my computer desk. Pete

PMDG DC-6B on approach
What an aircraft!!! I might just force myself to splash out on this though it might take months of learning just to complete a flight. I think the announcement on it's own probably lifted xplane sales lol Regards

Mapping Airports/Scenery as a community
<quote> So in a preliminary version using WED, I had to create a huge taxiway of grass in order to overlay the unwanted textures. Perhaps those grassy areas would better be displayed in OSM/W2XP? <unquote> Was thinking maybe an exclusion zone in WED might be a better option.

Mapping Airports/Scenery as a community
I have a new internet connection in two or three weeks which will give me the extra I needed to contribute in this area. Regards

XP Question from Someone whos been away for a while
The airports come with Xplane so you do not need to download. They don't interact as your stuff in customised scenery takes preference. The gateway is where you can upload your airports provided they abide by some basic rules and in the long term it will provide a much more populated Xplane. So feel free to enhance a couple of your local aiports and upload

32bit vs 64bit performance
I think maybe its not much of a performance change as a vast improvement in memory intensive situations. Regards

Considering X-Plane 10... A Few Questions
I really do completely fail to understand UI complaints. I came from many years of using MSFS but jumped ship when I witnessed the FSX release fiasco. I can say that I have never given a thought about the UI. I just gradually learned where everything is without giving any thoughts such as this should be here, that should be there etc;. I do know that it is a very powerful interface, giving easy access to a huge amount of parameters. Regards

X-Plane 10.30 beta 6 is here
One thing to note is your use of opensceneryx. For your airport to be accepted it must use only the default stuff found in WED which means your airport will be rejected because of it's use of opensceneryx. Regards

X-Plane 10.30 beta 6 is here
Hi anthony I submitted an airport also and it is good to see them start appearing in xplane. I have some more to submit but I will hold as Ben asked until the new WED and the website is up. What is especially good to see is the number of airports with their associated buildings, equipment etc; starting to appear (a few hundred now). The barren airports was a thing that turned a number of would be xplane users away. I think that this upgrading of airports will accelerate now that the website and the new WED are close to coming online. I'd like to see a bit more variety in the building objects in WED though, and a few more different textures would be nice. Regards

Austin Meyer reveals new animation details in XP Video
I guess we are all very different in what want and look for. What makes it unusable for you, I never even noticed. lol

possible to play x-plane with just keyboard and mouse?
Yes it is. I am in transit at the moment so it is not worth buying a joystick so I did some messing around with the mouse. I found that after a bit of practice you can get reasonably decent flying with the mouse. Regards Pete

We have lift-off! SimHeaven OSM+AUTOGEN is ORBX GLOBAL!
So in other words no flight simulator can be successful if it's not using orbx is what he really meant. Well that clears everything up then.

10.30 within 24 hours
Version 10.3 is looking very interesting. A lot of enthusiasm came across in those few words from the man himself. Will be nice to see what Ben has to say in his news slot.

X-Plane X Unuseable
My understanding is that all the assets used in the upload are to be those provided by Laminar as is the case at the moment.

Do not fly over the Poles in X-Plane!
Probably because not many ppl fly there.

ahem... Linux....
I think the most important thing to remember is to log into a lightweight 2d desktop as has already been mentioned several times here. Xplane runs fine for me in the full 3d desktop environment but it is definitely snappier in the lightweight environment with the added bonus of a couple more FPS, (for me anyway, possibly not for someone with a really high end machine). Regards [edit] Just an afterthought. There is an Xplane linux forum over at the org which may be of help to any who are having issues.

Another xsimreviews bashing
Xplane will be never finished unless Austin decides to shelve it and move on. I believe this never finished scenario to be a very good thing. For example making use of new technology as it appears like 64bit, also making use of new graphics as the card manufacturers constantly improve and innovate. I should also mention the constantly improving and streamlining of code which gives the end user (and scenery, aircraft developers etc) an ever improving flight simulator. That's my take anyway, and from my personal perspective as a linux user, the other sims don't rate a mention with the exception of Flightgear. Regards

Honest Comparison
Hi Larry, I though he'd be back by now. He certainly contributed a lot of useful comments over the years. Hope he reconsiders. Regards

Dash8 Q400
Hi guys Just had to post because I just bought the Q400 while it was on special. My first heavy after many years of flight simming (well sort of heavy anyway) so I now have lots to learn but pretty excited and looking forward to it. One small point. When it first loaded was stuck on the weightNBalance screen. When I checked the log file it said it was failing on weightNBalance. So for any other linux user who gets their feet wet with this plane, all that is needed is to change "WeightNBalance.lua" to "weightNBalance.lua" and you're good to go. I think it's going to take months to get to know this bird

Contributions submitted to Robin
I had just been using an exclusion zone for what I need to remove. It seems the ideal might be an exclusion zone along with the boundary in case of future xplane updates. I'll have a look at that later.
