March 2, 200917 yr Hi,I am having difficutly changing the keys in FSX. I set them up the way I want them and they work fine. But the next time I load up FSX the key assignments have gone back to the default. Anyone know what the problem could be and what I could do to resolve it?many thanksJon
March 2, 200917 yr Not positive, but the default fsx.cfg has these lines:Controls_Default=StandardControls_Current=StandardIf for some reason fsx can't write / read the "current" standard, it will reload the default "standard". The current "standard" is the file .\controls\standard.xml under your fsx.cfg folder. You can look at standard.xml after making your assignments, and see if they were properly copied into your standard.xml. If they are there but you still have problems, one thing to try is to backup the default "standard" file standard.xml in your main microsoft flight simulator x folder, and copy over your "current" one. Then if FSX tries to read the default it will get one with your edits in it.scott s..
March 3, 200917 yr Once you have the keys setup the way you like, create a flight, and save it as your default flight.Then exit and restart FSX, see if the settings have been retained. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
March 3, 200917 yr This is a flaw in FSXIf you make changes to key settings1 - Then dont shut down fsx using the X on the window, but go to file menu and select End Flight.2 - Once back in the FSX free flight screen, then you can press the window X shutdown button on top right.I have found this works always. So as a general habit, i always exit FSX using End Flight in File Menu rather than instant shutdown. If you made a lot of changes to many keys, i recomend you end flight, then start new session for settings to be saved.WE NEED A CFG FIle tweak to FIX this though, caught me out too many times before.I will also go try the create flight, then save as default after change of settings
March 3, 200917 yr You should also check, if the file C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Controls\Standard.XML is not a read only. Bartłomiej Ender
March 5, 200917 yr Author Hi,Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Very helpful. The file is not a read-only file. However it is not incorporating my changes and I am not sure why. When I load it the date last changed is the last time I played FSX but in the text there is no reference to my changes. I have tried making my changes and then saving a new default flight but this still doesn't remember my changes. Nor does exiting through the flight exit menu. I should add that it is the key assignments part FSX doesn't remember. I have tried changing the joystick sensitivities etc and FSX remembers those changes fine. Most annoying!Jon
