Just purchased the boxed version, and wondered if I need to install any of the updates on the PMDG website? Or should it already be the latest version?

Please sign your name to your posts in this forum.After installing the box version, check the version you have against the current revisions on the pmdg website. I assume the box version will be current because it was released years ago but checking is easy.

I assume you mean the Aerosoft packaged CD. If you go to Aerosoft.com, you can register your product using the code you received with the CD. This will open up your access to the FAQ for this product which contains service packs for the CD version of the Aerosoft site.They probably match the the PMDG packs at the time Aerosoft released the CD but there may be later ones tailered to the time of the CD release.
