FSX freezes

Featured Replies

Don't know if my post would be better placed in the "CTD forum", I don't have a CTD, my FSX freezes the whole PC.I already had two occurrences where I needed to power cycle my newly built PC (FSX runs full screen, I fly with the default CRJ, suddenly the picture freezes, and Vista doesn't react anymore). Since I have no error message or other information (PC is completely "locked"), I'd be interested to know if -- apart from "trial and error" experimenting with fsx.cfg parameters -- there are some tools available which allow me to narrow the problem (e.g. memory meters for main memory and video adapter memory). I don't overclock.Maybe REX is a troublemaker, I remember it enters some high value in fsx.cfg for a certain parameter, need to look after this. Only thing I have edited in fsx.cfg is affinity_mask...Anyway, I keep trying and reading other postings...My specs: Core2 Duo 8400, Nvidia 250 GLS 1GB, Vista x64, 4GB RAM, FSX SP2, Ultimate Terrain X, Ground Environment X, 78m mesh south america, REX.

Have you tried renaming or deleting your FSX config, restarting the sim, and letting the program rebuild the FSX.cfg?Jim

Check your CPU and GPU temps.

There's a few things you can try:Video drivers. Get the latest.Audio Drivers. Get the latest.Start there.Hope it helps.

I had a maybe similar problem and pinned it down (after almost a year) to the DRAM boost setting in the BIOS. Make sure that is off. This is especially true if FSX recovers after several minutes (don't close it by force, just wait).

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'll set the BIOS to minimums at first and start with a "naked" FSX and gradually work towards higher settings.I collected some tools in the meantime (temp/load/memory meters for CPU and GPU), hope they help...Andreas

Hi Folksahinterl -Try just pressing ESC, ESC.If your slider settings are too high,FSX is always playing catchup, and can have generated a dialog box, then overdrawn it with the viewport window.HTHATBPaul
