VNAV approach logic problem

Featured Replies

With a non precision approach Apparently with the window open and the AP in VNAV you should remain in VNAV SPD until reaching the "on approach logic" waypoint at which point the PFD then goes from VNAV SPD to VNAV PTH assuming you're on profile. Is there a download to fix this problem on PMDG?nathan K

Hi, I don't understand your question completely. Please provide more informations. Which Approach did you select? and where (Airport?), maybe there is an error in the coded approach.Which Navdatabase do you use?Which Aircraft 737, 747?Which Simulator FS9, FSX, Do you have the latest patch installed? A Screenshot would be helpful. What do you mean with "window open"What do you mean with on "approach logic" waypoint? Is this the Final Approach Fix (FAF)Jan-Paul

Hi Jan-Paul,thanks for the response. I'm using FS9, doing an approach into hong kong, let's say LOC 07R, but it happens on all non precision approaches - when descending in VNAV PTH say from top of descent and you press the speed window and now control a/c speed with the window as opposed to the FMC programmed speed - the PFD should annunciate VNAV SPD until the on approach logic waypoint - which yes is the FAF, then it should automatically go to VNAV PTH after passing the FAF. I just installed the latest update. as for datatbase - mmm...i'll have to look for an update.thanks for your timenathan ki can email you more info if it'll help

AOM 8-7: VNAV SPD indicates that pitch controls speed but you have entered MCP SPD mode where thrust controls speed. Normally using MCP SPD (indicated as SPD on the FMA: AOM 8-12) you control descent rate with MCP V/S control because you have left VNAV mode. I believe the aircraft is responding correctly.I assume you are referring to the 747. The MD11 has a much better VNAV capability, especially for non-precision approaches, than the Boeings.

Nathan,What aircraft are you using here? It makes a big difference. The fully updated 747 with the -F addon can do VNAV in the non-precision approach environment, as can the MD-11. The 747 pax-only version and the 737NG don't handle it very well as they're based on an earlier version of our systems code that didn't have that functionality yet.

Hi RyanThat would explain why my 737 VNAV approaches usually end in dismay! The 747 seems to be okay - can you clarify, is it def. only the 744F add-on? I thought the PAX version was brought in-line systems-wise with the F version in the final FS9 update?Or am I mistaken?Cheers Rudy

thanks ryan,I'll look into the -F model, yes I'm using the 747 pax\nathan
