June 2, 200917 yr Author Vololiberista -- I'm going to as a REALLY stupid question here, but just to be sure: do you rebuild your PFE database after every single scenery change you make in FS9? Even if you just rearrange the order of scenery in your scenery.cfg? Have you checked for duplicate AFCADS, by any chance?I have never experienced any of the problems you're having and as a matter of fact, if I lose track of any frequencies I just hover my cursor over the appropriate airport in my FSNAVIGATOR, which is completely independent of FS and PFE, and I get the freuqency set in the AFCAD via a pop up. These have ALWAYS agreed with whatever PFE has given me, so long as I have kept the PFE data base rebuilds up to date.I have not added any scenery since installing PFE. The problem with frequencies is that PFE knows the correct frequency (see freq_conversion.dat in the data directory) but tells you to select a fictitious one.The other serious problem is misdirecting you on a reciprocal heading to the one that should be taken to establish.Vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
June 2, 200917 yr Delete all the files that makerwys creates before running it again, for some reason there seems to be a problem on certain systems if the files already exist. I had some add on airfields I created myself and the tower frequency sometimes appeared as multicom or fss instead of a proper tower frequency other sessions it worked fine. As soon as I deleted the 6 or so files that makerwys creates everything worked fine the next time I rebuilt the database after running makerwys again. Cheers, Andy.
June 6, 200916 yr This can easily be corrected by choosing/activating the desired RWY in the PFE menue.WolfgangThis is exactly what I was told I shouldn't have to do by the developer. I do, however, find myself closing down extra rwys that I know are not in use. Unfortunately this requires decent foreknowledge of airport conditions. LiveATC usually provides enough information to know which runways are in use at a real world active airport, so it's not too bad. It's still annoying, though. On another point, I find I have these issues more with modified/payware airports than the stock ones included with FS. I'll attempt another db rebuild and see if anything changes.
June 6, 200916 yr One of the other struggles I've had with PFE has been with flight planning SID/STAR information. Normally I use FSBuilder to generate my flight plans which I get from Flightaware.com.For example, a common KDEN-KDFW flight would look similar to:PIKES4.PUB BGD.UKW9Now I have been "told" by the developer that I shouldn't be including SID/STAR way points in my flight plan if I make sure to have "Use sid/star" checked in PFE. I've found, though, that when I only use SID/STARs in my FMC, and not as part of the original flight plan, I get "you are X miles off the airway" alerts from ATC.How do you guys flight plan for SID/STARs? Do you include them when you use a utility like FSBuilder or leave them out and assign them directly in your FMC after loading the flight plan?
June 6, 200916 yr Have a look in 'Options 1' and either disable 'airway deviation distance' messages by changing the figure to zero, or increase the number of miles off track you are allowed to go before getting a warning. Cheers, Andy.
June 7, 200916 yr After yet another unsuccessful flight I've decided I'm done with PFE and moving on to something else. I'm tired of always coming in too high or not getting RWY vectors until I'm practically on top of the airport. I seem to handle landings better when I'm using regular FS ATC and just programming in the desired SID as basic way points rather than dealing with PFE's issues. Combine that with all the other problems I've mentioned and you can see it adds up to one frustrating evening.I wish I'd had better luck with it.. and maybe I'll revisit it later when all the kinks have been worked out.
June 7, 200916 yr el_kab0ng - don;t give up, PFE is a great addon. I've used "all" the alternative ATC programs for quite a while, and PFE is the best one I own. If you think the native MSFS ATC is better, there is definitely something wrong. Did you ever play with the settings I mentioned in my earliest post:>>>>One other setting that I no longer change is in the PF2000 section of the program. I have distance from FAF set to 12 miles and the approach angle (?) to 20 degrees and I have never had another problem.I also have dumped FSBuild long ago -- half the time it had me going all the way around the globe to get to my destination, for Pete's sake, so there are a lot of moving parts to consider here. My advice would be to start small, and then layer in your complexities as you learn the nuances program -- have you tried a flight using the built in Microsoft FS9 flight planner -- no SID/STARS? Also, it's been my experience that addon ATC can never be as near realistic as real life ATC or VATSIM; Radar Contact has been around much longer than PFE and it's flawed, too, so make sure you're expectations are within reason. The fact that PFE has so many different voices and accents, and changes them appropriately based on your location without intervention makes it amazing from the get go! I really hope you figure this out -- I had problems learning PFE for a while too, but once I got the hang of it I couldn't give it up if I tried -- and believe me, if I can do it, anybody can! :( Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. I set the FAF to 12 and the angle to 20 as suggested with no noticeable differences. I only use FSBuild to generate exact duplicates of real world flight plans found on Flightaware, so I've never been misdirected like you mentioned.PFE just isn't where I need it to be at the moment. Maybe in version 3 things will be better. I'd eagerly give up the voice packs for proper flight vectoring any day.
June 7, 200916 yr Do you want to fly SID's, STARS or do you want vectors? how can you get bad vectors if you have SID/STAR mode enabled in PFE, the whole point is once you are within 30 miles of the airport you should be flying the approach yourself. Are you sure you have the latest version of PFE (2.11.1) installed? as an earlier version did have problems with vectors for a very short time, this may have only been in a beta version actually, but it was fixed. Cheers, Andy.

As for STAR's there is a problem especially with both FS9 or PFE And that is that the STAR will finish too close to the airport for example at London Heathrow both Ockham and Biggin are too close. Bear in mind that the STAR finishes at facilities like OCK and BIG and thereafter one "does not" fly the approach oneself. Most of the STAR's around Heathrow are also stacks for holding a/c. Let's imagine that you are at FL 70 at OCK (the procedure at Heathrow is for a continuous descent including the glide slope) Approach will say:-Speedbird 3442 turn right heading 070 descend to 2,500 on QNH 987You read back(the next msg is to vector you onto the ILS)Speedbird 3442 reduce speed to 180 turn left heading 310 call established rwy 27 leftYou read back thenApproach Speedbird 3442 established on the (localisor)(glideslope) 27 leftRoger speedbird 3442 contact tower on 118 decimal 7You read back thenTower Speedbird 3442 with you established on the (localisor)(glideslope) 27 leftRoger Speedbird 3442 QFE 984 number 4 for landing etcThis IS the correct procedure and so far i have not been able to repeat it using PFEVololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
