Environment/ambient sounds (FSX)?

Featured Replies

Hello, all. EZ Scenery had the ability to add imported wav files as ambient sounds into FS2004. I was wondering if there existed a program that allowed you to do the same for FSX. I'm not really into hardcore scenery design, but I liked the ability to easily add sounds such as lapping water against a seaplane dock or the cries of gulls in the vicinity. It really added to the immersion on seaplane flights and I was hoping to find a way to do it for FSX as well. Thanks!Jon

There is no program to add sounds to FSX as of now. I have tryed to intrest some coders to make one and the answer I get is " There is no great demand for it". If you read the SDK it can be done using XML. You will need the sound file (to be added to the FSX sounds folder). you will need a effects file for the effects folder. that file will resemble this;[Library Effect]Lifetime=5Version=2.00Radius=24Priority=1[sound]FileName=dog3.wavMinAttenuationDistance=24.00Looping=TRUE[Properties]Cockpit=1VirtualCockpit=1Spot=1Tower=1Map=1[Emitter.0]Lifetime=0.00, 0.00Delay=0.50, 0.50Bounce=0.00Rate=5.00, 10.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00X Particle Velocity=-0.20, 0.20Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Particle Velocity=1.00, 2.00X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Pitch=0.00, 0.00Bank=0.00, 0.00Heading=0.00, 0.00Then you will need the sound XML file which will resemble this;<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?><FSData version="9.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd"> <SceneryObject lat="27.763591" lon="-82.634673" alt="0" pitch="0" bank="0" heading="0" altitudeIsAgl="TRUE" imageComplexity="NORMAL"> <Effect effectName="fx_birdtwitter2" /> </SceneryObject>This will locate the sound in FSX and will be placed in the scenery folder for the scenery after it is compiled into a bgl..Good luck, I hope I have helped.Joe WatsonLake Placid, Florida

Thanks very much to all who replied. That bit of coding doesn't look too difficult. I'll have to give it a try this weekend. :)Jon
